- ASEAN stands for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations
Overview
- It is a regional intergovernmental organization comprising ten Southeast Asian countries

- It was established on 8 August 1967 in Bangkok, Thailand
- The founding members were Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand
- Brunei Darussalam joined on 7 January 1984, Vietnam on 28 July 1995, Laos and Myanmar on 23 July 1997, and Cambodia on 30 April 1999, completing the current ten-member composition
- ASEAN's main objectives include accelerating economic growth, promoting social progress, and fostering peace and stability in the region
- The ASEAN Secretariat is located in Jakarta, Indonesia
