Stance
- Stand with feet about hip-width apart.
- For left-handed shooters, position the right foot with the toe aligned with the midline of the other foot, pointing towards 2:00.
- Right-handed shooters should point their left toe towards 10:00.
Arrow Preparation
- Grasp the arrow below the fletchings and point it downrange.
- Twist the arrow, ensuring the odd-colored fletching faces the archer.
- Nock the arrow below the knock indicator, placing it on the arrow rest.
- Position the bowstring in the archer's groove on the draw hand.
- Set both the bow hand and drawing hand.
Shooting Steps
- Pre-draw: Raise both arms.
- Draw: Pull the elbow back.
- Anchor Point: Establish a consistent anchor point on the jawline; beginners may use their index finger at the corner of their mouth.
- Aim: Focus on the target.
- Shot Setup: Engage the relevant muscles.
- Release: Release the string.
- Follow Through: Bring the thumb back towards the shoulder, painting the face.
- Reflect: Maintain consistency throughout the 11 steps.
Arm Rotation
- Rotate the bow arm slightly to prevent the bowstring from hitting the forearm upon release.
Whistle Commands
- 1 whistle means shoot
- 2 whistles mean get bow
- A two-whistle command at the waiting line signals archers to collect their bows from the bow line and proceed to the shooting line.
- Bows should be placed on their toe at the shooting line until a one-whistle command is given, which indicates the start of shooting.
- 3 whistles mean go get arrows
- After shooting five arrows, return the bow to the bow rack and return to the waiting line to await the three-whistle command to retrieve arrows.
- Multiple whistles mean stop, there is an emergency on the range
