Archery Success Steps
-
Stance: Feet and shoulders should be positioned shoulder-width apart. Straddle the shooting line with the toe of the foot closest to the target aligned with the bow wheel.
-
Nock Arrow: Grasp the arrow below the fletching and lift it over the vertical bow, inserting it into the bow string. Ensure that the index vane is facing the archer.
-
Drawing Hand Set: Hook the bowstring using the archer's groove for proper alignment and grip.
-
Bow Hand Set: Position the grip of the bow under the lifeline of the relaxed bow hand. Maintain a 30-45 degree angle with the knuckles of the bow hand.
-
Pre Draw: Position the drawing and bow arms to arm level. Rotate the elbow of the bow arm downward and outward to prepare for the draw.
-
Draw: Keep the draw arm parallel to the ground and smoothly pull the bowstring towards your face.
-
Anchor: Place the tip of the index finger at the corner of the mouth, creating a gentle guiding point known as "tickling your smile."
-
Aim: Align the arrow rest and/or arrow point with the target for accurate aiming.
-
Shot Set Up: While focusing on the target, engage the back muscles and ensure slight rearward movement in the drawing shoulder, arm, and elbow for stability.
-
Release: Allow the hooked fingers and the back of the drawing hand to relax simultaneously for a clean release of the arrow.
-
Follow Through/Reflect:
- Extend the drawing hand backward under the ear, brushing along the face until the thumb approaches the shoulder. The drawing elbow should relax downward.
- The bow arm should move slightly forward, left, and downward after the shot.
- Reflect on the shot's feeling and appearance to assess performance.
