S Block Elements
The S block elements consist of two groups--Group 1 (alkali metals) and Group 2 (alkaline earth metals)--and one period. These elements have two electrons in their outermost energy level (valence shell), with one being a s orbital electron and the other one being a p orbital electron. They tend to form stable compounds due to the presence of these valence p orbitals. As a result, they do not exhibit a characteristic reactivity pattern like the transition metals.

Electron Configuration and Shielding Effect
The inner shells of alkali earth metal atoms contain 2 or more electrons. There is only one electron present in the outermost shell. Reactivity
