Study Notes
Aircraft Network Server Unit (ANSU)
- Provides a common data file storage system for loadable software and other applications
- Acts as a host platform for airline applications, processing, and network communication services
- Interfaced with Terminal Wireless LAN Unit (TWLU) for ground network connection with the Cabin Network System (CNS) and cockpit connections for PC or printer installation
Data Communication Service
- Handles communication between the end user and the aircraft network server system
- Provides wireless Ethernet/email service, telephone, and fax facilities in the aircraft cabin area
Cabin Network System (CNS)
- Supplies the aircraft cabin with a high-speed communication connection based on standard Ethernet (IEEE 802.3) and standard network protocols
- Allows flight and cabin crew, passengers, and maintenance personnel to connect devices like laptops to the LAN
- Antenna receives signals from devices wirelessly connected to the LAN and transmits signals to the CWLUs and vice versa
Cabin Connector
- A wired network connection for the cabin crew with a data rate of up to 100 Mbps
Interface Systems of the Cabin Network System
- Interfaces with:
- Forward Attendant Panel (FAP)
- In-Flight Entertainment System (IFE)
- Aircraft Information Network System (AINS)
- Landing Gear Control and Interface Unit (LGCIU)
- Cabin Telephone Unit (CTU)
- Centralised Maintenance Computer (CMC)
Passenger Air-to-Ground Telephone/Fax System (PATS)
- Enables passengers and cabin crew to send faxes via the aircraft Satellite Communication (SATCOM) system
- Performance is equivalent to usual office fax machines
- Interconnects with the Satellite Data Unit (SDU) for worldwide FAX service
Decoder/Encoder Unit Type-A (DEU-A)
- Interfaces with active DIR to control passenger-related systems
- Interfaces with:
- Passenger Service Units (PSU)
- Lighted signs (FSB/NS/RTS)
- PAX-call lights
- Loudspeakers
- Cabin lighting
- Number of DEU-As depends on cabin layout, installation of optional systems, and aircraft type
- Interconnected with DIRs through CIDS data bus
Decoder/Encoder Unit Type-B (DEU-B)
- Interfaces with active DIR and cabin-crew-related functions
- Controls:
- Area Call Panels (ACP)
- Attendant Indication Panels (AIP)
- Additional Attendant Panels (AAP)
- Handsets
- Emergency Power Supply Unit (EPSU)
- Slide/door pressure sensors
- Drain mast heating monitoring
CIDS Cabin Layout Selection
- Allows cabin layout reconfiguration through software database changes
- No hardware changes required
- Protected by access code and only available on the ground
Cabin Programming
- Allows configuration of cabin zones through a dedicated programming page on the FAP
- Available on ground or in flight
- Protected by access code
