Flashcards
Abnormal Attitude Law
Abnormal Attitude Law
A flight control law that engages when the aircraft's attitude goes beyond normal limits.
Flight Envelope Limits
Flight Envelope Limits
Safe operating boundaries for aircraft concerning pitch, bank, angle of attack, speed (kt), and Mach number.
Abnormal Attitude Law Engagement

Aircraft Flight Control Laws
- Extreme attitudes trigger a modified flight control law, the "abnormal attitude law".
- This law prioritizes pilot recovery of normal flight conditions.
- The abnormal attitude law activates when specific parameters exceed limits:
- Pitch attitude above 50° nose up or 30° nose down
- Bank angle above 125°
- Angle of attack above 40°
- Airspeed above 440 knots or below 60 knots
- Mach number above 0.96 or below 0.1.
- When the law activates:
- Pitch "alternate law" is used.
- Roll "direct law" is used.
- Yaw "mechanical law" is used.
- Autotrim is deactivated.
- "USE MAN PITCH TRIM" is displayed on the primary flight display (PFD).
- "F/CTL ALTN LAW" is displayed on the electronic centralized aircraft monitor (ECAM).
- When the aircraft returns to normal flight envelope, the abnormal attitude law disengages, restoring:
- Pitch "alternate law" with autotrim.
- Roll "direct law".
- Yaw "alternate law".
- "F/CTL ALTN LAW" remains visible on the ECAM.
