Rice: Staple food crop in India, second-largest producer after China. Prefers high temperatures (above 25°C), high humidity, and annual rainfall over 100cm. Grown in northern and northeastern India, coastal areas and deltas, using irrigation in areas with lower rainfall. Key producing states include Punjab, Haryana, and western Uttar Pradesh.

Wheat: A major cereal crop in northern and northwestern India, grown in rabi season (cool growing season). Requires 50-75 cm of annual rainfall and bright sunshine. Important wheat-producing states are Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and parts of Bihar, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.

Millets: Important crops in India including jowar, bajra, and ragi. Valuable for their nutritional content (iron, calcium, etc). Ragi is particularly high in micronutrients and roughage.
