What is Spreadsheet Software?
- A program that allows users to organize data in rows and columns and perform calculations on the data
- Examples of Spreadsheet Software: LibreOffice Calc, OpenOffice.org Calc, Google Sheets, Apple iWork Numbers, Kingsoft Office Spreadsheets, Star Office Calc, Microsoft Excel
Opening Microsoft Excel
- Press “Windows logo”+ R, type “excel”, then enter to open Microsoft Excel

Worksheet Components
- Column headings: letters that appear along the top of the worksheet window
- Row headings: numbers that appear along the left of the worksheet window
- Worksheet: a window that displays an Excel Workbook (Spreadsheets)
- Vertical scrollbar: a scroll bar used to scroll vertically through the workbook window
- Horizontal scrollbar: a scroll bar used to scroll horizontally through the workbook window
- Zoom control: controls for magnifying and shrinking the content displayed in the active workbook
- View shortcuts: buttons used to change how the worksheet content is displayed
- Sheet tabs: tabs that display the name of the worksheets in the workbook
- Active cell: the cell currently selected in the active workbook
- Name box: a box that displays the cell reference of the active cell
- Formula bar: a bar that displays the value or formula entered in the active cell

- Merge: combining or joining two or more cells
- Formula: an expression that calculates the value of a cell, always begins with an equal sign (=)
- Functions: predefined formulas that perform calculations using specific values in a particular order
