Dictionary Definition 1955– NOUN Artificial Intelligence - Abbreviated AI-: The capacity of computers or other machines to exhibit or simulate intelligent behaviour; the field of study concerned with this. Also as a count noun: an instance of this type of software; a (notional) entity exhibiting such intelligence. AI Early Definitions: During the Dartmouth Conference 1956, which is considered the first ever event of AI as a field, John McCarthy defined AI as "Artificial Intelligence is the science and engineering of making intelligent machines.” Marvin Minsky (1969): "Artificial Intelligence is the science of making machines do things that would require intelligence if done by men.” Nils J. Nilsson (1980): "Artificial Intelligence is that activity devoted to making machines intelligent, and intelligence is that quality that enables an entity to function appropriately and with foresight in its environment.” Why do you need to learn about AI?
