Summary
This document explains fit-gap analysis, process modelling methods, and the elements of an Event-driven Process Chain (EPC) model. It discusses the purpose of fit-gap analysis in determining the extent of business process changes needed during ERP implementations. The document also highlights the benefits of diagrammatic models in process representation, and using these models to connect business strategy to ERP system implementation.

w8 Explain the purpose of fit-gap analysis Fit Gap Analysis provides a measure of fit to determine: o Extend of business process changes required: It indicates the degree of adjustments needed in business processes. o Determine software customization o Determine interfacing requirements: identifying the needs for connecting with other systems or components o Greater the misfit, the more risker and costly the implementation Fit gap analysis is performed in most ERP implementations at various stages. Two main capabilities are required for an effective fit-gap analysis: 1. Detailed understanding of characteristics and components of the organization 2. Detailed understanding of the capabilities of the candidate software product Understand the role of process references models for fit-gap analysis Reference models are information models that are developed with the goal of being reused. ERP vendors developed ERP-specific reference models in the form of function, data, system organization, object, and business process models. Business process reference models describe the business processes supported by an ERP system Can be used by end users and implementation team May also be used as basis for matching ERP system with company’s requirements. Identify and describe different methods for conducting fit-gap analysis w8 1 Simulation based: ERP is installed in simulated test or Sandbox environment; stakeholder workshops to compare functionalities and requirements Brainstorming discussion based: Facilitated workshops with consultants and business users Process based: Comparison of company AS-IS models with ERP reference model Questionnaire based Hybrid Explain the purpose of process modelling in an ERP implementation Diagrams are essential tools in bridging the divide between business strategy and the implementation of business processes in ERP systems Diagrams play a crucial role in connecting business strategy with the execution of processes in ERP systems.” Benefits of diagrammatical models for process representation: o Easier to understand the process o Standard modelling language helps to reduce misunderstand among stakeholders Identify the different elements of an Event-driven Process Chain (EPC) model An Event-driven Process Chain (EPC) is a type of flowchart used for business process modelling. EPC diagrams states in which way and at what time a reaction that causes a change should happen w8 2 Explain the flow of a process from an EPC model w8 3
