25/11/23 Upper limb II- elbow to hand: part 3 Learning objective: classify the muscles of the forearm and their associated movements on the wrist and the hand. Learning objective: illustrate the vascular supply of the upper limb. Learning objective: discuss the innervation of the hand. Learning objective: describe the contents and the boundaries of the cubital fossa ( brachial artery, cubital vein and median ner ve and the relationship to each other ). Posterior compartment ( extensor ): Muscles in this compartment: Move the wrist. Extend the ngers and thumb. Supinate the hand. Arranged into t wo layers: Super cial. Deep. Deep: 1. Abductor pollicis longus. Abducts the thumb. 2. Extensor pollicis brevis. Extends the thumb. Forms the laterally border of the snuffbox. 3. Extensor pollicis longus. Tendon forms the medial boundary of the anatomical snuffbox. Extends joints of the thumb. 4. Extensor indicis. Accessory extensor of the index nger. 5. Supinator. Extensor indicis Extensor pollicis longus supinator Abductor pollicis longus Extensor brevis pollicis Superficial layer: Seven muscles which all originate from the supraepicondylar ridge and lateral epicondyle of the humerus. 1. Brachioradialis. Flexor of the elbow joint as it is anterior to the joint, even though it is in the posterior component. 2. Extensor carpi radialis longus. Extends and abducts the wrist. 3. Extensor carpi radialis brevis. Same thing but shorter. 4. Extensor digitorum. Major extensor of the four ngers. 5. Extensor digiti minimi. Extensor of the little nger. 6. Extensor carpi ulnaris. Extends and adducts the wrist. 7. Anconeus. Extensor of the elbow and abducts the ulna during pronation.
