Let’s Understand (Study the Concept) Installing Operating System and Driver Updates A system software is any software required to support the production or execution of application programs. It is the most important software among the types of software. Without it, the computer will not work. A. Installing the Operating System 1. Windows 7 2. Windows 8 3. Windows 10 4. Windows Server 2008 A.1. Installing Windows 7 Step 1 Step 1. Backup your data If you are installing the operating system on the computer for the first time, you don’t need to do this. But if this is a reinstallation of the operating system or reformatting, make sure that you have already backed up or saved your files on an external storage device (e.g. digital versatile disc – DVD, memory stick or flash drive, external hard disk drive, or through cloud storage. During reformatting, all the files and applications will be erased from the hard disk drive provided that the whole disk will be formatted. In this case, it is advisable to back-up all the files stored on it. Before doing the backup using an external storage device, make sure that you have attached it to the computer using the Universal Serial Bus (USB) port. To backup date/files using Windows 7, do the following steps: 1. Click the Start button. 2. Click the Control Panel 3. Under the System and Security Category, click Backup your computer. 4. Click Set up backup. (Please wait while Windows Backup starts 5. Select where you want to save your backup. Click the selected drive. 6. Then follow the backup wizard. Step 2 Step 2. Set your BIOS to boot from an optical disc or Flash Drive It is important that you set your boot priority on the BIOS configuration to the optical disc if you will be using a Digital Versatile Disk (DVD) or USB Device if you will be using a memory stick or flash drive. 1 To setup the boot priority, do the following steps: 1. Restart the computer. 2. Press any of the most common keys to enter the setup screen. (The most common keys are F2, F10, F12, and Del.) You can see any of these keys when the manufacturer logo appears. 3. Once in the BIOS menu, select the Boot menu. Change the order of devices so that your computer boots from DVD or USB device before booting from the hard drive. If you are installing from a flash drive, then you will need to set the BIOS to boot from removable storage. 4. Save your changes and exit. Your computer will restart. Step 3 You may also press F12 to enter the booting options while the computer is booting. Step 3.
