Make sure you listen to the full works, as I may not play from the beginning of the track. You’re best way to properly identify the works is by focusing on unique elements such as instruments used, tempo, language of the text, etc… Example Title – Dido’s lament Composer – Henry Purcell Genre – opera Essay Questions – Answer 2 questions as thoroughly as possible 1. Compare and contrast the Baroque and Classical eras. A thorough essay will provide musical examples while discussing musical techniques, important genres, overall musical sound, emblematic composers, and the relationship between music and society. 2. Discuss the development of opera as a musical form, including its genesis and transformation throughout the Baroque and Classical eras. Be sure to include information about overall trends, singing styles, major composers, and important works. 3. Discuss the rise in importance of instrumental music over the Baroque and Classical eras, referring to the cause of this rise, important genres and composers, and major forms (i.e. – sonata form)
