However, the video is actually from a different disaster several years ago, and John doesn't realize this when he retweets it. MISINFORMATION A political campaign intentionally spreads false data about voter fraud in an upcoming election. They release fake statistics and create videos showing supposed evidence of fraud, knowing that it’s fabricated. The aim is to undermine trust in the election results and encourage supporters to protest. DISINFORMATION A journalist publishes a story about a celebrity’s mental health issues based on leaked medical records. However, the headline implied that immigrants were the sole cause of the problem. FALSE CONNECTION A political candidate shared a statistic that “violent crime has doubled in the past year,” but omitted the context that the statistic represented a small rural town, not the national average. In reality, violent crime rates were stable nationally. MISLEADING CONTENT During a large protest, an image of a violent altercation between police and protestors went viral. The image, however, was taken several years earlier during a completely different protest in another country.
