Remaining Lessons Before the Midterm Exam: Lesson I: Art Appreciation, Humanities, and Aesthetics Lesson II: Elements of Art: Visual, Auditory and Performing Arts Lesson III: Subject, Source, and Content of Art Lesson IV: Values and Qualities of Art LESSON II: AUDITORY ART What type of music do you enjoy the most, and why? How do you think music influences your mood or emotions? Can you remember the first song/album or artist that made you fall in love with music? AUDITORY ART is an art that is heard at one particular time. It is an art that combines sounds into a structured form usually according to conventional patterns and for an aesthetic or artistic purpose. The most common form of auditory art is MUSIC. ELEMENTS OF MUSIC Rhythm is the variation of length and accentuation of a series of sounds. It is an essential element of music that refers to the timing and arrangement of sounds and silences in a piece. ELEMENTS OF MUSIC In music, its most fundamental component is the beat. It is the steady pulse found in almost all music familiar to us. A measure (or bar) is a segment of music that contains a fixed number of beats, as determined by the meter. The music is divided into these small units, making it easier to keep track of the rhythm. Measures repeat continuously, and they are typically separated by vertical lines on a music sheet. Meter is the system that organizes the rhythm of music into fixed, repeating patterns of beats. It tells us how many beats will occur in each measure (or bar) and what kind of beats they are. Think of it as the skeleton or grid that holds the rhythm together in an orderly way. ELEMENTS OF MUSIC Melody is associated with mental motion sometimes called the memory element because it is always remembered by listeners. It is an organized group of pitches or notes strung out sequentially to form a satisfying musical entity. ELEMENTS OF MUSIC Pitch indicates the highness or lowness of sound and is determined solely by the frequency of molecular vibrations. The slower the vibration, the lower the pitch. The faster the vibration, the higher the pitch. ELEMENTS OF MUSIC Harmony refers to the manner of sound combination. It is the combination of different notes played or sung at the same time to support and enrich the melody. Harmony adds depth and fullness to music by layering multiple notes to create chords. ELEMENTS OF MUSIC Tempo refers to the speed of a certain musical piece. It may be slow, quick, or moderate. ELEMENTS OF MUSIC ELEMENTS OF MUSIC Dynamics refer to the amount, strength, or volume of the sound. It may refer to the loudness and softness of music. ELEMENTS OF MUSIC ELEMENTS OF MUSIC Timbre refers to the tone color or tone quality, which is the unique quality of a sound that allows us to distinguish between different instruments or voices, even if they are playing the same note at the same volume.
