Nehal Essam 4 PUA – Computer Center – UEC01 Lecture 8 5 PUA – Computer Center – UEC01 Using Illustrations and Graphics The term Graphics refers to several kinds of visual objects, including photos, “clip art” images, diagrams, SmartArt, charts, screenshots, and shapes. ❖Inserting and Formatting Pictures  Pictures is used to convey information in a way that words cannot.  Word marks Picture as an embedded object which means it becomes part of the document and is no longer connected to the original image. 6 PUA – Computer Center – UEC01 Using Illustrations and Graphics cont’d ❖Inserting and Formatting Pictures cont’d  Picture can be inserted from your computer or from an online source, such as the Internet or your cloud storage drive.  Pictures you acquire from the web are often copyrighted, unless the source clearly indicates that they are license free.  After inserting picture, the Picture Tools (Format tab) which is a contextual command tab appears.  Screenshots 0r Screen Clipping is a captured images of all or part of the current displayed screen and insert it as an image, it can be formatted as any other picture. 7 PUA – Computer Center – UEC01 Using Illustrations and Graphics cont’d ❖Inserting Video  It is common to embed a video in a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation than in a Word document.  Video can be embedded directly onto a page, and then play it when displaying the document electronically.  You can insert video clips from a variety of sources:  From your computer or a connected local storage device  Online videos from Facebook account, YouTube.  After inserting the video, you can format its representation 8 PUA – Computer Center – UEC01 Using Illustrations and Graphics cont’d ❖Inserting Shapes  Shapes are figures such as lines, rectangles, block arrows, equation shapes, flowcharts, stars, banners, and callouts.  Shapes can be formatted using Drawing Tools(Format tab). ❖Inserting Symbols  Symbols are characters associated with a particular font and can not be found on a standard keyboard. , such as copyright (©), arrows (  or ) and icons ( or ) 9 PUA – Computer Center – UEC01 Using Illustrations and Graphics cont’d ❖Inserting WordArt  WordArt is used to apply a series of effects to text with one click, such as shadows, reflections, glow effects.  WordArt becomes an object that you can position anywhere on a page. ❖Drop Cap: Many books, magazines, and reports begin the first paragraph of a section or chapter by using an enlarged, decorative capital letter. 10 PUA – Computer Center – UEC01 Using Illustrations and Graphics cont’d ❖Inserting SmartArt  SmartArt is predefined sets of shapes that used to create sophisticated diagrams that  SmartArt is used to illustrate concepts such as List, Process, Cycle, Hierarchy, and Pyramid.  SmartArt can be modified using SmartArt tools 11 PUA – Computer Center – UEC01 Using Illustrations and Graphics cont’d ❖Inserting Chart  Chart is used to identify trends that might not be obvious from looking at numbers.  Microsoft Word 2016 has many chart categories Such as Line, pie, Bar column and area.  When a chart is active, a Chart tool appears where you can change chart options. 12 PUA – Computer Center – UEC01 Using Illustrations and Graphics cont’d ❖Inserting Hyperlinks  Hyperlink is a way to jump from one location to a location within the document, to a web page, to a different document.  Hyperlink can be applied to text or graphics.  To follow the link, you hold the Ctrl key while clicking with the left mouse button on the hyperlink. 13 PUA – Computer Center – UEC01 Formatting a Document It changes the appearance of the document.  Character formatting  Paragraph formatting  Page formatting  Document formatting 14 PUA – Computer Center – UEC01 Character formatting A formatting that is applied to text, such as:  Individual character formats including font, font size, bold, italic, underline, subscript, superscript, font color, and highlight color.  Artistic text effects that incorporate character outline and fill colors(sometimes referred to as WordArt). 15 PUA – Computer Center – UEC01 Paragraph formatting  A paragraph is created by entering text and then pressing the Enter key.  A paragraph can contain one word, one sentence, or multiple sentences.  Paragraph Formatting is changing the look of a paragraph by changing its alignment, indentation, and spacing. You can also put borders around it and shade its background. 16 PUA – Computer Center – UEC01 Paragraph formatting cont’d ❖ Alignment It controls the horizontal position of the Paragraph text between the page margins. There are four alignment options:  Align Left results in a straight left edge and a ragged right edge.  Align Right results in a straight right edge and a ragged left edge.  Center results in ragged left and right edges.  Justify adjusts the spacing between words in the paragraph so it results in straight left and right edges. 17 PUA – Computer Center – UEC01 Paragraph formatting cont’d ❖ Indentation  First-line indent inserts blank space between the left margin and the first line of the paragraph ❖ Spacing  Line Spacing is the amount of space between the lines of text in a paragraph.  Paragraph Spacing  When you press the Enter key at the end of a paragraph, Word adds the designated space above or below the paragraph. 18 PUA – Computer Center – UEC01 Paragraph formatting cont’d ❖ Create and modify lists Lists are paragraphs that start with a character (usually a number or bullet).  Number List is an ordered list, where user can change the number style and specify the starting number for a list.  Bullet List is an unordered list where user can change the bullet symbol, or define a custom bullet (even a picture bullet). 19 PUA – Computer Center – UEC01 End of Lecture 8
