TERMS RELATED TO THE COLLEGE, PROGRAM & CANDIAN HEALTHCARE SYSTEM TERM DESCRIPTION Academic A document which states the specific program advancement policies that must be observed by the student in Standing and order to remain in "good standing" throughout the program. Failure to meet the program requirements may result Advancement in the student being placed "out-of-phase" or being "expelled" from the program. It includes both the academic Policies and the non-academic (professional conduct) standing requirements. Chairperson Person in charge of the general coordination of the Diagnostic Imaging Department. Comprehensive Final evaluation for the whole three years of the program. Successful completion prior to obtaining the DEC. It is Examination given in the April-May of the third year of the program. It includes a written, practical and oral component. Course A collection of software tools providing an online environment for course interactions, which includes a variety of Management online tools and environments. At the college, Moodle and LEA are the most commonly used CMS systems used. System (CMS) DEC Diplôme d'études collégiales. Faculty Didactic teachers of the program. It includes the Chairperson, the Clinical Coordinator and the Clinical Liaisons. Members Technical staff that assists the faculty during labs. These individuals are registered MITs. They are responsible for Laboratory the good functioning of the lab facilities as well as making the multimedia, books, images, bones and phantoms Technologists available to students. The learning aids include books, radiographic images, anatomical charts/phantoms, test tools, X-ray apparatus and accessories, bones and a computer imaging lab. This computer lab is Learning Aids equipped with Windows 7, MS Office, graphics programs, and Internet access. Concentration courses may also provide online activities through Course Management Systems (CMS) e.g. Moodle, LEA. Safety Policies A set of regulations that everyone in the program should adhere to ensure safety. & Procedures Many services are available to students who need assistance. The College offers a variety of support services: academic Student advisor, tutors, mentors, academic skills center, and language, psychological and financial support. Check the College web Services site for available services. Program Affiliated Hospitals partner sites offering the clinical courses of the DI Program: MUHC, JGH, STM & CSSS-ODI (LGH) Hospitals CAMRT Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists. CT Computed tomography. Diagnostic It includes mainly radiography, and also includes the US and MRI modalities. Synonymous with medical imaging. Imaging Magnetic Resonance Imaging: imaging modality that uses magnetic fields, radio frequencies and computers to produce MRI sectional images. Punctuality All professionals in the province of Quebec must demonstrate proof of French Proficiency. This requirement is regulated by the Office québécois de la langue française (OQLF) in association with the professional Order (OTIMROEPMQ). Students who have not been educated in Quebec will probably be required to write the French Proficiency test – application forms are available in the Program Coordinator's office. French Proficiency Students who feel that they meet the criteria for exemption from this test must make an official request, in writing, to the OTIMROEPMQ. Both applications and requests for exemptions should be sent as early as possible in case you need to write or re-write the test. It may be recommended that you do additional French courses to help you prepare for this test. Support and preparation for OQLF testing is also available through Le Centre de Langue Ecrite et Orale (CLEO) office at Dawson. Medical Radiation The general title used in other Canadian provinces when referring to a registered technologist (RT). The discipline-specific professional titles Technologist (MRT) are Radiological Technologist (RTR), Radiation Therapist (RTT), and Nuclear Medicine Technologist (NMT). There are many organizations and associations related to the fields of medical imaging and radiation science. Information on them is Professional available through the program's web site. The OTIMROEPMQ and the CAMRT are important organizations that students are encouraged to Organizations explore on the Internet. RT Registered Technologist: technologist that is an active member of the OTIMROEPMQ/CAMRT. This is a skill that must be developed throughout the program. Learning Activities at the College and in the clinical setting are designed Team Effort accordingly. The nature of the program and profession require effective team effort skills. Students are expected to take control of their studies, identify their personal strengths and offer assistance to peers whenever possible. They must be aware that they must register for a full course load in each term to remain in "good standing" as per the Academic Regulations found in the College Timetable & Registration Guide. They must consult Course Load the Program Coordinator before dropping any course (including Core courses). Students having a "failing" or an "at risk" rating on the College mid- term assessment will be required to see the Program Coordinator for advice/support. Minimum competencies that must be developed throughout the program in order to successfully complete the Comprehensive Examination and Exit Profile DEC. The program Exit Profile includes the Ministerial competencies and the OTIMROEPMQ Entry Profile to the Profession. These objectives are cross-referenced with the CAMRT Competency Profile. See the "Entry Profile to the Profession" in the Program Manual. Professional Professional Conduct is clearly described in the Code of Ethics of the OTIMROEPMQ and the CAMRT, as well as in the Program Manual and ISEP Conduct document. It provides long-term predictable funding for Transfer Act health care and supports the principles of the Canada Health Act L'Ordre des technologues en imagerie médicale, en radio-oncologie et en électrophysiologie médicale du Québec. Main role is to protect the public. The OTIMROEPMQ delivers certifying exams once the DEC is obtained. The OTIMROEPMQ OTIMROEPMQ also delivers working permits to candidates who have successfully passed the certifying exams and the provincial French Proficiency test from the Office québécois de la langue française if applicable. Radiodiagnostic is a discipline of Medical Radiation Technologies; a modality that uses X-radiation for the diagnosis of Radiodiagnostic disease.
