Knowing Your Computer Files and Folders Files and folders help to keep your computer organized. Computer documents are saved as files. Folders are used to store/organize your files. Files and Folders Files and Folders Windows has some folders already set up for you: Documents Music Pictures Videos You can organize your own documents into these folders. Files and Folders Creating folders Right click , move mouse pointer to new and then to folder and click and name your folder Select location for folder, press Ctrl+Shift+N, name your folder Opening Folders Double click or right click and select open on the file/folder you want to open Moving Files and Folders Drag and Drop/Cut and paste/Copy and paste Open notepad/word document and type a few things and save it into a folder. Renaming Files and Folders Right click and select Rename Select/single left click on it then press F2 key Deleting Folders Right click and select delete Select/single left click on it then press “Delete” key Shift key The Shift key is a keyboard modifier key that allows users to type a single capital letter and change the top number keys to a symbol. For example, pressing and holding the Shift while pressing A generates a capital "A" and pressing the Shift and the number 1 creates an exclamation mark on US keyboards. Shift Key CAPS LOCK Sometimes abbreviated as CAPS and CAPSLK, Caps Lock is a toggle key on a computer keyboard, that when pressed, causes all letters typed to be in uppercase. For example, when Caps Lock is enabled, the typed letters appear "LIKE THIS." When disabled, they appear "like this.“ Num Lock The Num Lock key enables and disables the numeric pad. When Num Lock is enabled, you can use the numbers on the keypad. When Num Lock is disabled, pressing those keys activates those key's alternate function. For instance, the arrow keys on the keypad may only be used if Num Lock is disabled. Function Keys The function keys or F keys are lined across the top of the keyboard and labeled F1 through F12. These keys act as shortcuts, performing certain functions, like saving files, printing data, or refreshing a page. For example, the F1 key is often used as the default help key in many programs. The F5 key is used in an Internet browser to refresh or reload a web page. The function of these keys can differ by operating system and by software program. Function Keys ---FN The Fn key used with the F keys across the top of the keyboard, provides short cuts to performing actions, such as controlling the brightness of the screen, turning Bluetooth on/off, turning WI-Fi on/off.
