# Muhammad: As If You Can See Him ## Muhammad, the messenger of Allah - The name Muhammad means "the praised one". It describes the Prophet's qualities, as it identifies him as a person. - He was known for his divinely protected nature as the seal of all prophets. - He is Allah's obedient slave, and Allah’s Khaleel. Khaleel is more than a friend, it denotes the highest level of friendship. - He was known by other names, including: - **al-’Aqib:** one who succeeds others, or one who comes after others. - **al-Hashir:** signifies resurrection. - **al-Mâhee:** means "erasing something", because he erased disbelief. - **Ahmad**: this was the name that Jesus foretold. - All his names point to his noble qualities. ## His lineage - In terms of lineage, the Prophet is the best, from the best, from the best, all the back to his last forefather Adam. - All his forefathers were married and did not fornicate. - His forefathers were leaders among people, chiefs of tribes, and sub-tribes. - His grandfather, Abdul-Muttalib, possessed noble qualities. His great-grandfather, Hashim, was even nobler. ## His homeland - Allah chose Makkah for his prophet. - It is the inviolable city, the holy city. - The Prophet was born in Makkah. - Makkah is where prophets and messengers performed prayer. - It is the city where revelation came down. - It is the city that holds the Ancient House, the Ka’bah. ## Muhammad as a child - The Prophet did not descend from the heavens at the age of forty. - He entered the world in the same manner that all other children did. - He experienced a normal aging process. - He was innocent but was born of excellent lineage. - He was both innocent and pure. - He was intelligent and pure. - The Prophet’s life was divinely protected, which distinguishes him from other children. ## Muhammad the messenger - It was tremendous news that the Prophet, the seal of all prophets, had finally come to preach his message to mankind. - Kings and people of foreign lands were all discussing the Prophet and his message. - The Prophet’s arrival is similar to the falling of rain in a time of drought, representing light. - The Prophet wasn’t just a leader, he was a prophet and a guide. He came with the Book of Allah, his own Sunnah, light and guidance, beneficial knowledge, and righteous deeds. - The Prophet focused on people's well-being in this life and in the hereafter; he was concerned with their spiritual as well as their physical well-being. - The Prophet was not merely knowledgeable. He was taught by Allah and taught the knowledge he had been blessed with to others. - He trained the most famous and eminent scholars and jurists of the world, and taught orators how to deliver wonderful speeches. - He guided the wise and the unlearned, and guided all people to the truth. - The Prophet was a warner and a bearer of glad tidings to everyone. ## His religion - His religion is Islam. - When asked what is the only religion that leads to success and safety, Allah said: "And whoever seeks a religion other than Islam, it will never be accepted of him, and in the Hereafter he will be one of the losers." - Islam was an easy religion to follow, it was comprehensive, complete, and perfect. - Allah said: “This day, I have perfected your religion for you, completed My Favor upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion.” - Islam freed people from servitude, guiding them to worship the Lord of all slaves. - It liberated them from the narrow life of this world to the vastness of the Hereafter, from the darkness of the polytheism to the light of Islamic monotheism, from the misery of disbelief to the happiness of faith. - Islam is appropriate for all times and all places, and it was legislated by the one who alone forgives sins, and knows what is hidden in people’s hearts as well as their outward display. - Islam came with beneficial knowledge and good deeds. - Although Jews had knowledge, it did not benefit them. Christians strove for good deeds, but lacked the knowledge to follow the straight path. Only Islam is the straight path. ## His book - The Prophet’s book is the Qur’an, the most sacred of all books. - It is perfect and free from all defects. - It was revealed by the all-wise. - It is a blessed book. - It’s perfect in terms of its meanings, words, and the arrangement of its chapters. - It is a blessed book because it brings blessings when one recites is, contemplates its meanings, uses to it cure ailments, and uses it to judge disputes. - One receives ten rewards for each letter of the Qur’an. ## Muhammad, the truthful one - The Prophet is the most truthful man. - He never spoke a lie, not even as a joke. - Allah entrusted him with conveying his message to mankind. - He carried it out with truthfulness and trustworthiness. - The Prophet was truthful on all occasions, in times of war and peace, and when he was happy or angry. - He was truthful with all people, even with his enemies. - The Prophet set a high standard of truthulness, ordering his followers to do the same. - He was known as "The Trustworthy One", and set an example for the world to follow. ## Muhammad, the patient one - Patience involves the capacity for calm endurance of pain, trouble, and inconvenience but it’s also a spiritual quality that involves enduring hardship for the sake of Allah. - The Prophet was a paragon of patience because he was chosen to be the seal of prophets, which meant not an easy life, but a life of difficulties. - He endured being an orphan, being hungry, being poor, and leaving his homeland, his house, and his family. - He was patient when he was persecuted. - He was patient when his companions were tortured. - He was patient when his companions were killed, when his enemies waged war against him, when bedouins acted ignorantly. - He was patient when the Jews plotted against him, and when hypocrites conspired to harm him, and when many of his own relatives forsook him. - He patiently resisted the temptations of the world, the allure of riches, and the appeal of being strong. - The Prophet was patient in every aspect of his life. - His patience was his armor against everything harmful. - He was patient when his uncle died, when his wife died, when his son died, when his people were patient, when his wife was accused of doing a vile deed, when his people called him a poet, a sorcerer, or a madman, when they cursed him, persecuted him, waged war against him, when they physically assaulted him, - The Prophet is the ideal model of patience, for those who are thankful. ## Muhammad, the generous one - The Prophet was the most generous. - He adorned himself and others with the noblest of manners. - He trusted so much in Allah that he did not fear poverty. - Arab poet once said the Prophet would have forsaken the word "no" had it not been for the Tashahud, the testimony of faith, because he was so generous. ## Prophet Muhammad’s bravery - The Prophet’s bravery was a direct result of his faith in Allah. - He feared no one save Allah. - He placed his complete trust in Allah because of his faith in Allah’s promise to protect him. - The Prophet was like a great mountain, he didn’t shake or tremble. - He placed his complete trust in Allah. ## Prophet Muhammad’s humbleness - Being humble involves showing low estimation of one’s own importance. - The Prophet was humble because of his knowledge of his Lord’s mightiness. - He recognized that Allah is the greatest and most powerful. - The Prophet was not impressed by status, fame, power, or material possessions. - To know a person’s character, look at how they treat those below them. - The Prophet was the best friend and greatest supporter of the weak. He spoke gently to women, helped the poor, and addressed strangers with love and compassion. ## Prophet Muhammad’s forbearance - Forbearance involves abstaining from exacting revenge when someone wrongs you, and refraining from enforcing what is due. - The Prophet was forbearing and patient. - He would restrain his anger when wronged. - He rejected the notion that he was a liar or a magician when his fellow tribesmen persecuted him. - He forgave them when they waged war against him. - In fact, he even forgave his cousin, Sufiyân ibn al-Harith, who admitted to being in the wrong on the day of the conquest of Makkah. ## Prophet Muhammad’s mercy - Allah described his Prophet as a mercy to all that exists. - The Prophet believed he was nothing more than a mercy and a guide. - He would cry when witnessing the death of his granddaughter. - The Prophet was merciful to relatives, friends, and strangers. - He was merciful toward Muslims. - He aimed to make matters easy for his people by shortening the congregational prayer and responding to the cry of a baby. ## Prophet Muhammad making du'a' (supplication) - Du’a’ is a supplication, a prayer to Allah. - It is a specific form of worship. - It includes standing, bowing, prostrating, and sitting down. - Salâh is a regulated form of worship that includes all forms above as well as magnifying Allah. - ‘Ibadah is a more universal term of worship. - It applies to all acts of worship, and any action or deed can be transformed into an act of worship. - ‘Ibadah is not limited to salah. ## His remembrance of allah - The Prophet’s entire life involved the remembrance of Allah. - He would always remember Allah when he was at home, travelling, or sleeping. - He also encouraged others to do the same. - His remembrance of Allah reached such a great extent that, just to look at him, reminded people of their Lord. - He would implore his companions to remember Allah and to remember him. - He was a role model for others. - The more a person remembers Allah, the better they are as a Muslim. - Allah said: "I am with My slave as long as he remembers Me, and as long as his lips move (with remembrance of Me)." - Allah said: "If one remembers Me to himself, I remember him to My Self.
