**Grade 10 English Summary** **Sentence** -- group of words that has a complete thought/idea Parts of Sentence **Subject** -- topic in a sentence **Predicate** -- tells something about the subject Different Sources of Information -- media, blogs, personal experiences, books, journal and magazine articles, expert opinions, encyclopedias and web pages Parts of Speech 1. **Noun** -- represents a person, thing, concept or place (by names) Example: Mark Benedict 2. **Pronoun** -- use as a substitute instead of a noun or a phrase Example: He/She/It 3. **Verb** -- indicates a physical action, mental action or a state of being Example: walk 4. **Adverb** -- modifies a verb, an adjective or another adverb Example: extremely, slowly, gracefully, truthfully 5. **Adjective** -- modifies or describes a noun or a pronoun Example: beautiful, easy 6. **Preposition** -- use to show direction, time, place or relationship Example: below, under, above, behind 7. **Conjunction** -- connects words, phrases or clauses Example: and, or, but, yet, if 8. **Determiner** -- modifies or introduces the noun in a sentence Example: There 9. **Interjection** -- used to express a feeling/to request/demand something Example: Hoorah!
