# FAMILY LIFE (COURTSHIP, DATING, MARRIAGE) ## Family Family is a small unit where socialization begins to provide guidance in improving one's personality in order to become more productive and useful citizens of the country. The values of integrity, love, and honesty begin in the family where each member has his/her own role to play in the attainment of a healthy family life. ## How did it begin? ATTRACTION Attraction is admiration for someone that may include the desire to get to know that person better. Attraction usually takes place in the form of infatuation or crush. The charm or special quality of something that draws you to it is its attraction. An attraction can be a physical force as well as a psychological one – though sometimes, as with love, it can be hard to tell the two apart. ## Infatuation Infatuation is falling in love with or becoming extremely interested in someone or something for a short time. Infatuations usually don't last. Like incredibly intense crushes or the stomach flu, infatuations come on strong and then get forgotten. ## LOVE Love can be described as a feeling of intense affection for another person. It is most often talked about as an emotion between two persons. Love is a force of nature. However much we may want to, we cannot command, demand, or take away love. ## Courtship Courtship may be an informal and private matter between two people or may be a public affair or a formal arrangement with family approval. It is a stage of not simply knowing the person but also a test of compatibility between two persons. It is also an opportunity to know the background of each other, including the family where each one belongs. Most partners go through a courtship before deciding to get married. ### Courtship Practices at the Age of Technology * A suitor can court a woman through the use of cellphones. * Frequent texting and calling one another develop their feeling of belongingness until such feeling develops into a deeper relationship resulting to love. * A man can court a woman through Facebook, Twitter, Skype or other social networking sites. ## Dating Dating is a social activity which involves two or more people generally assessing each other's suitability for a potential relationship. Dating can also be enjoyed as part of an already active relationship. Dating is where two people who are attracted to each other spend time together to see if they also can stand to be around each other most of the time, if this is successful they develop a relationship ## Engagement Engagement is a period of agreement entered between two people in love for them to be able to know each other and their families, well enough to be sure that they are ready and are suited for life-long companionship. ## Marriage Marriage, a legally and socially sanctioned union, usually between a man and a woman, that is regulated by laws, rules, customs, beliefs, and attitudes that prescribe the rights and duties of the partners and accords status to their offspring. ## Factors to Consider in Choosing a Lifetime Partner 1.
