KINDS OF BUSINESSES RETAILING Retailing involves selling goods or services directly to the final consumer for personal or household use. Retailers purchase products from manufacturers or wholesalers and sell them to end users. They often operate in physical stores, online platforms, or both. Retailers focus on consumer preferences, marketing, and customer service. Ex: Walmart, Amazon, IKEA, H&M SM , Robinsons, Puregold, Mercury Drug, Watsons, Shopee, Lazada, 7-11 WHOLESALING Wholesaling involves selling goods in large quantities to retailers, other businesses, or institutional buyers, rather than directly to consumers. Wholesalers act as intermediaries between manufacturers and retailers or other end businesses. They typically purchase products in bulk at a lower cost and sell them in smaller quantities to retailers, who then sell them to consumers. Ex: Costco Wholesale, Sysco, McLane Company Suy Sing, Divisoria Market, Landers Superstore Uniwide Sales Warehouse, Makro MANUFACTURING Manufacturing involves producing goods by processing raw materials or components into finished products using labor, machinery, and technology. Manufacturers design, create, and assemble products. They may sell their finished goods directly to consumers, wholesalers, or other manufacturers. Manufacturing often involves quality control, production management, and logistics. Ex : Toyota, Nestlé, Samsung, Coca-Cola San Miguel Corp, Universal Robina Corp, Monde Nissin Corp, Alaska Milk Corp SERVICE A service business provides intangible products, such as expertise, skills, or labor, rather than physical goods. Service businesses focus on delivering value through experiences, advice, labor, or professional skills. These businesses range widely in the services they offer, from personal care to technical assistance. Ex: Netflix, Uber, Airbnb, American Express PLDT, Globe Telecom, BPI, Cebu Pacific Air Business Registrations, Permits and Licences Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) The DTI is the primary government agency responsible for promoting and regulating trade, industry, and investment in the Philippines. The DTI is tasked with ensuring that Philippine industries are globally competitive and sustainable. It implements policies that enhance consumer welfare, develop small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and foster a conducive business environment. The DTI provides support to businesses through programs on entrepreneurship, product development, and market access, among others.
