This lead to many violent revolutions and a complete upheaval of the mercantilist economic system. If freedom was the focus, what may mercantilism have been replaced with? OM SLIDESMANIA.C Free Market Gold An economy with no government involvement Supply and demand is not regulated, or is regulated with minor restrictions OM SLIDESMANIA.C Capitalism Gold An economic system for increasing individual wealth, requiring a relatively free market, open competition, the profit motive, and at least some private ownership of the means of production. Like mercantilism, makes a certain group rich: this time it is the business people. Survival of the fittest (hardest working, most entrepreneurial) Wrote the Wealth of Nations which laid the foundations for capitalism.
