The heart of the course is to form individuals who are truly endowed with the Perpetualite identity. The FCL Pillars 1. CHRISTIAN IN LIVING FCL is rooted in the life of Christ. Christ is the source, the reason and the meaning of the life of a Perpetualite. A Perpetualite, thus, adheres to the cross- spirituality. FCL is incarnational. It is an encounter with Christ who brings about redemption, empowerment, salvation and mission. FCL is relational. It is an encounter not only with Christ but with others. Such encounter brings about opportunities for self- fulfillment and service to others. FCL is communitarian. It aims to build a communion of persons united and living according to the teachings of Christ. The FCL Pillars 2. CATHOLIC IN DOCTRINE The founders, Dr. Jose and Dra. Josefina, were devout and active members of the Roman Catholic Church. The UPHS is Marian. The name of the University is taken from the deep devotion of the founders to Our Mother of Perpetual Help. This devotion turned out to be their mission: to "perpetually help" individuals, communities and the country. FCL is ecumenical. Though Catholic in doctrine, the University is open to all kinds of faith. It respects and values their dynamism, vibrancy and richness, As a non-sectarian institution, it enjoys the privilege of being the home of persons who witness and share their faith as one community of believers. FILIPINO IN CHARACTER FCL takes pride in the Filipino as a people and as a nation. it is for this reason that the UPHS wants to contribute to Nation building through Character building. FCL aims to awaken the Filipino spirit among the students and harness the good Filipino traits in them. FCL is inculturated. It aims to live Christ's life in a Filipino way. UPHS though Pilipino also caters to international students. The Filipino is not isolated but aims at communion and provides service to foreign students. UPHS also takes pride in being a Filipino institution which provides Filipino health education to foreign students in a foreign country. The cognitive domain includes knowledge and the development of intellectual abilities. This includes recalling or recognizing certain facts, procedural patterns, and concepts that help to improve intellectual abilities and skills. A Perpetualite is expected to know the basic concepts of FCL. The formation of the HEAD also refers to the categories such as Knowledge, Cognition, Mind, Self-discovery, Doctrine, Education and Prophetic Character. The Dimensions Or Components Of Integral Formation The HEART: FCL inspires the heart. This domain includes how we react with things emotionally, such as feelings, values, admiration, enthusiasm, motivation, and attitudes. A Perpetualite is expected to carry their knowledge to the level of the heart. He/she is capable of defending and standing up for his or her beliefs. The formation of the HEART also refers to the categories such as Attitudes, Affection, Soul, Intimacy, Personal Integration, Worship and Priestly Character. The Dimensions Or Components Of Integral Formation The HAND: FCL moves to action. The psychomotor domain includes physical movement, coordination, and motor-skill application. Practice is required to develop these talents, which are measured in terms of speed, precision, distance, procedures, or strategies used in execution. A Perpetualite can apply his knowledge and values to everyday life. His or her acquired knowledge will be useless if it does not manifest in the everyday life of a Perpetualite. Knowledge gained should be expressed in concrete actions. The formation of the HAND also refers to the categories such as Skills, Motor, Body, Service, Pastoral Training, Service and Kingly Character. Understanding this element is important in order to know what it means to be a Perpetualite and its community. 1 HISTORY OF UPHSD The University of Perpetual Help System DALTA Inspired by Dr. Jose G. Tamayo and Dr. Josefina Laperal Tamayo's dedication to national development, Dr./BGen. Antonio L. Tamayo and Dr. Daisy M. Tamayo founded Perpetual Help College of Rizal (PHCR) on February 5, 1975, in Las Piñas City. Initially serving 185 students with two programs, the college expanded with branches in Molino and Calamba in 1995 and 1996, respectively. In 1997, PHCR achieved university status, and in 2017, it was granted Autonomous Status by CHED. Today, the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA continues to excel, with a strong network of national and international partnerships. 2 PHILOSOPHY The University of Perpetual Help System DALTA believes and invokes Divine Guidance in the betterment of the quality of life through national development and transformation, which are predicated upon the quality of education of its people. Towards this end, the Institution is committed to the ideals of teaching, community service and research as it nurtures the value of “Helpers of God”, with “Character Building is Nation Building” as its guiding principle. 3 VISION The University of Perpetual Help System DALTA shall emerge as a premier university in the Philippines. It aims to graduate dynamic students who are physically, intellectually, socially and spiritually committed to the achievement of the highest quality of life. As a system of Service in health and in education, it is dedicated to the formation of Christ-- centered, service-oriented and research-driven individuals with great social concern and commitment to the delivery of quality education and health care. It shall produce Perpetualites as “Helpers of God” – a vital ingredient to nation building. 5 THE FOUNDER’S AND CO-FOUNDER’S CREED “Character Building is Nation Building” The creed acts as the fundamental principle established by Dr. / BGen Antonio Tamayo to ensure a high quality of life and prosperity for the youth. It emphasizes the importance of cultivating the right character traits to foster a nation’s growth and success. With the university’s guidance, young people can create a thriving country with their core values and transformative efforts. 6 UPHSD SEAL The seal of the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA was inspired by Dr. Josefina L. Tamayo’s devotion to Out Lady of Perpetual Help, the school’s patroness. The icon depicts Mary offering love and comfort to Jesus, symbolizing her perpetual help available to all. The infant Jesus represents the youth nurtured by Mary’s motherly care, reflecting the university’s values. The two laurel leaves symbolize the CEO’s sons, continuing their parent’s mission, and signify the university’s pursuit of excellence. The seal’s colours being maroon, white, blue, and gold represent courage, purity, generosity, hope, and vision. 7 CONCLUSION The University of Perpetual Help System DALTA (UPHSD), founded in 1975 by Dr.Antonio L. Tamayo and Dr. Daisy M. Tamayo, has evolved from a small college into a respected university known for its commitment to national development and character building.
