The act of revealing or communicating divine truth, especially by divine agency or supernatural means. Holy Spirit HOW GOD REVEALS HIMSELF TO US ? Scripture The Bible (Old & New Testaments) Tradition (Apostles, Bishops, Magisterium) Our daily lives Prayer, nature, others, ideas, insights, emotions, experience, etc “The mystery of existence is always showing through the texture of ordinary lives. HOW GOD God’s Revelation Through REVEALS Scripture HIMSELF TO US ? The Bible is the inspired Word of God; written by human beings with the guidance of the Holy Spirit to teach without error those truths necessary for our salvation. Jesus Christ fulfills the Old Testament; He does not abolish it. HOW GOD God’s Revelation Through REVEALS Tradition HIMSELF TO US ? Tradition - the process of handing on beliefs and practices over time. Tradere: ‘to hand on’ A living process, NOT static: Beliefs grow, modify, and develop over time. Magisterium “the official, authoritative teaching voice of the Church” HOW GOD God’s Revelation Through REVEALS HIMSELF TO US ? Tradition Big traditions vs. little traditions ‘ Big Traditions Authoritative beliefs Little traditions and dogmas Customs and (Think Nicene & practices Apostles Creeds.) Others The Saints as models of holiness, intercessors praying with and for us, and companions along our faith journey. Our family and friends Ultimately, while faith is both personal and individual, it can only be possible through communal interactions. Immediate and Mediate Revelation Immediate – a revelation received directly from God Mediate – it is a passing of the revelation Natural and Supernatural Revelation Natural Revelation – (sovereign power of God) manifestation of God in nature and creation. It is the revelation of God in His work. Supernatural Revelation – a revelation above the natural. It takes place in history. HOW GOD TYPES OF DIVINE REVEALS REVELATION HIMSELF TO US ? Public and Private Revelation Public – a revelation to a group of people, or to the church, the people of God. Example: Exodus 14:21-29 ERV Moses raised his hand over the Red Sea, and the LORD caused a strong wind to blow from the east. The wind blew all night long. The sea split, and the wind made the ground dry. The Israelites went through the sea on dry land. Private – it is given to individuals or group of individuals for special reasons. - the purpose is to enlighten the faithful on the way they should Human Learning Experience Sarah, in the Old Testament, wife of Abraham and mother of Isaac. Sarah was childless until she was 90 years old. God promised Abraham that she would be “a mother of nations” (Genesis 17:16) and that she would conceive and bear a son, but Sarah did not believe What was the first stage of God’s revelation to man?
