COACH B.1 Content Notes (30 mins) Instructions: In this lesson, you are going to read and to learn about “Science in our Daily Life”. To help us understand what we read, we will use the comprehension strategy of summarizing and generalization. In doing this strategy follow these steps: Step 1. Read the content notes and highlight/underline the salient information Step 2. Organize your thoughts then summarize the text you have read. 1. Step one: Read the content notes and highlight/underline the salient information First, I will read the concept notes titled, “Science in our Daily Life”. I will underline what I think the important ideas are. Look at what I did. Science is all around us, shaping the world we live in and influencing our daily lives in countless ways. From the moment we wake up to the time we go to sleep, we encounter the fruits of scientific discovery and innovation. Whether it's the technology that powers our smartphones, the medicines that keep us healthy, or the food we eat, science plays a crucial role in almost every aspect of our existence. But beyond gadgets and conveniences, science also helps us understand the natural world, from the intricacies of the human body to the mysteries of the cosmos. In this dynamic interplay between science and daily life, we find both wonder and practicality, reminding us of the profound impact that scientific knowledge has on our collective human experience. Almost everything that we see around us is the gift of science. Be it the smart-phones, fan, wheel, vehicles, cloth, paper, toothbrush, electricity, microwave, vehicles, radio, television, laptops, etc, everything is the result of the contribution of science. Let us glance through the importance of science in detail: 1. It helps us save time & money – Various contributions of science have helped us save time and money. While science has given us the knowledge why baked or steam- cooked food is better than the fried or oily food, technology has gifted us with microwave and steam-cookers that help us bake and steam cook our food. Various objects and devices like computers, modes of transport, washing machines or just anything else help us save our time and money. 2. Education – Science has made significant contributions in the education field as well. Science has given us immense knowledge. 3. Internet – Information technology, including the internet, is an excellent gift of technology. With the help of the internet, we not only get immense knowledge on science and other subjects, but we also get to stay connected with our friends and family. Provides us devices for comfortable sleeping, quick cooking and fast commute – In short, science and technology have made our life easier. With the help of objects like A.C, microwave, and vehicles, science and technology have made our sleeping, cooking and commuting process easier and faster, respectively! 5. It helps us live a better life – While science has made significant contributions in health by providing treatment for various chronic diseases, technology has benefited us in receiving those treatments through various ways and devices like X-ray, scan machines, operation devices, pacemaker and much more! We are also blessed with numerous exercising equipment, various health apps, online doctors and other things that help us maintain good health and life. Uses of Science across Multiple Fields and Industries Uses of Science in different fields are as follows: AGRICULTURE In the field of agriculture, science has made its mark by contributing so much. In present days machines are available even for sowing the seeds on fields. Tractor, thresher, drip irrigation system, sprinkler irrigation system, etc., all are given by science. All fertilizers are also given by chemical science. MEDICINE The medical field is based entirely on the usage of science. All the drugs are given by medicinal chemistry. Tools used in the medical field are also given by science. Machines such as stretchers, the ECG machine, MRI machines and even injections were invented by science. TRANSPORTATION All vehicles are the invention of science. Science has made the world a small place. Cycle, scooters, cars, aircraft, etc., all are inventions of science. We can transport goods easily and faster by the use of machines given by science. COMMUNICATION Science has made the world very small. You can talk to anyone anywhere in a fraction of seconds. Telephones, mobile phones, etc., all are the inventions of science. All these mediums of communications are available at a very low cost as well. So, all are within reach of the common man. Science has made it very easy and cheap to talk to someone using a mobile phone. CHECK C.1 Check for Understanding (15 mins) Activity #1: Caselet DIRECTION: Read and analyze the provided caselet below and answer the question that follows. Every morning, before heading to school, Sarah follows a routine that involves several activities influenced by science. Let's take a look at how science plays a role in her morning: Sarah wakes up to the sound of her smartphone alarm. As she reaches for her phone, she wonders about the science behind its touch screen and how it allows her to interact with the device. After checking the weather forecast for the day, Sarah heads to the bathroom to brush her teeth. She notices the toothpaste claiming to provide "advanced cavity protection" and wonders how the ingredients work to maintain her dental health. Next, Sarah heads to the kitchen to make breakfast. She decides to use the microwave to heat up some oatmeal. While waiting for the microwave to finish, she thinks about the science of microwave radiation and how it cooks her food quickly and efficiently. After breakfast, Sarah gets ready to leave for school. She grabs her backpack, which feels lighter thanks to the ergonomic design that distributes weight evenly, a concept she learned about in her science class.Reflecting on Sarah's morning routine, how does science influence various aspects of her daily activities? Provide examples to illustrate the scientific principles behind each activity. ______________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________________ Activity #2 TRUE OR FALSE (5 mins + 3 mins checking) Instructions: Read each question carefully, and understand what is being asked.
