PURPOSE: Clearwater Fire & Rescue will establish guidelines for station security to protect personnel, and aid in the management and safekeeping of personal and City property. 621.1 Station Security A. The station officer shall be responsible for overall security of the fire station buildings, surrounding grounds, and all apparatus and equipment. B. The safety and security of the fire stations shall be considered a high priority at all times. 1. Unless Fire Department or other authorized personnel are in the immediate area, all exterior doors and windows shall remain secured and locked. (refer to Fire & Rescue Facility Visitation Policy 205P for authorized personnel definition) 2. During evening hours, all exterior lighting shall be in operation. 3. Station access, pass codes, or station keys shall not be given to anyone other than Fire Department personnel without permission from the Fire Chief (or designee). 4. When fire apparatus leaves the station, the Driver/Operator shall ensure that the bay doors are closing/closed prior to departure (regardless of the time of day). C. Personnel who discover station damage, stolen or vandalized property, or any issue which impacts station security shall immediately report it to the station officer. 1. The station officer shall notify the appropriate District Commander who will assess the situation and contact the Police Department if warranted. 2. The District Commander shall make all proper notifications in the chain of command. D. Station security is the responsibility of all personnel. Please report any unusual activity to your District Commander. E. The following safety measures should be followed: 1. All doors are to be kept in a closed and locked position, except while being attended, including apparatus bay doors. a. Attended meaning that someone is in the general area of the door and is aware of personnel movement in and around the facility. Apparatus bay doors may be opened up to four inches (to aid in air circulation) and not be attended. 3. Ensure personal equipment and property is properly protected while at work such as: a. locking of personal vehicles, b. minimal personal effects stored at the stations, c. and avoid having large amounts of personal funds at the stations. 4. Secure all doors prior to leaving the station. (emergency calls, company training, occupancy inspections, etc.) 5. All visitors to the Station must end their visit by 2000 hours. 6. Secure all doors and windows by 2300 hours. 7. Change-out batteries in overhead door remote control devices at least quarterly. 8. Check on exterior lighting operation weekly. F. Surveillance Cameras - The surveillance cameras are an integral component of the security in and around the stations. The cameras shall be maintained in an operational mode at all times and shall not be tampered with or intentionally obstructed in any means. Any issues or problems with the cameras should be immediately reported to the IT Helpdesk. REFERENCE: SDP 205P Facility Visitation
