NTCSS Release 2023-01 51_ATA34_Lv2&3_CAT B2_P_JUN21.pdf GPS Air Data Inertial Reference SubSystem - A400M Training Manual Description & Operations General Description IR Architecture The IR part of each GADIRU measures the aircraft accelerations from their internal sensors: - The axis-orientated accelerations are sensed by means of the Accelerometers, which are linear acceleration sensors - The corresponding ax angular velocity Pitch, Roll, and Yaw are sensed by means of the Gyros From the sensors, the IR constantly computes the A/C attitude (Pitch, Roll, and Yaw) and, by the detection and measurement of motions, speeds and accelerations, can deduce at any time the A/C position from an initial reference point. GADIRS uses also position data from its internal, dedicated Military GPS and from the Civil GPS of the Multi Mode Receiver (MMR) system. The GADIRUs merge and filter the measurements from all the different sources (IR, military GPS and/or civil GPS) to provide a hybrid solution for position. The GADIRUs send inertial data and hybrid position, via ADCN and through direct links to: - HUDS - Other A/C systems The GADIRUs also send inertial data to the Integrated Standby Instrument System (ISIS). For the link with the crew, the IR uses the HMI resources provided by the FMS and CDS, which interchange data via ADCN with the GADIRUs. The IR also interfaces with the crew through direct links between GADIRUs and: TRAINING - GADIRS Control Panel (IR pushbuttons), within the ICPS, for fault indication and disabling - The Attitude/Heading selector in the SSP for source switching. It also sends its command via IOMs and ADCN to the user systems (CDS, HUDS) to change their selection of air data input. NTCSS Release 2023-01 51_ATA34_Lv2&3_CAT B2_P_JUN21.pdf GPS Air Data Inertial Reference SubSystem - A400M Training Manual Description & Operations General Description GPS and Time Architecture (Standard A/C Configuration) The GPS provided by GADIRS is a military GPS that delivers data with superior accuracy than the civil GPS. The GADIRS receive the GPS signals through two kinds of antennas: - FRPA - CRPA, which is linked to an electronic unit called Controlled Reception Pattern Antenna Unit (CRPAU). Two GPS outlets provide the GPS signal from the two CRPAUs for use by portable GPS units. The GADIRU sends GPS data via ADCN to the A/C systems. For the link with the crew, the GPS uses the HMI resources provided by the FMS and CDS, which interchange data via ADCN with the GADIRU. The GADIRUs also receive commands through direct links from the Antenna Selection Switch, which is within the ICPS. It allows the crew to switch between FRPA and CRPA. The switch status is also transmitted to other systems. Thanks to GPS function, the GADIRS provides the “system time”. It is achieved by the Clock function of the GADIRU. According to crew selection (internal or external) from CDS, the time source for the Clock is either the military GPS of the GADIRU or the civil GPS of the MMR. The flight crew also can manually set the Clock. The “system time” is the unique time reference on board of the A/C. It is sent via ADCN to CDS to be displayed and to other systems. NTCSS Release 2023-01 51_ATA34_Lv2&3_CAT B2_P_JUN21.pdf GPS Air Data Inertial Reference SubSystem - A400M Training Manual Description & Operations General Description Power Supply - GADIRUs Each GADIRU is supplied with 115VAC and 28VDC for back up, which are redundant power supply inputs (only one is needed for GADIRU operation). In normal electrical configuration: - GADIRU1 is powered with 115 VAC from the AC Emergency Bus. - GADIRU2 is powered with 115 VAC from the SEPDC 2. - GADIRU3 is powered with 115 VAC from the SEPDC 1. In case of loss of main electrical generation, the principle is to supply two GADIRUs (GADIRU 1 and 3) from the AC Emergency Bus: - GADIRU1 is still powered with 115 VAC from the AC Emergency Bus. - GADIRU2 is no longer powered with 115 VAC since normal power from SEPDC 2 is lost. - GADIRU3 is powered with 115 VAC from the AC Emergency Bus, after automatic switching ensured by the Emergency Relay. In case of total loss of 115 VAC supply, the Hot Bus Essential will supply the GADIRU1 and 3 on 28 VDC Back-up Power input through respective Time Delay Opened (TDO) Relays. These relays remain activated by a control signal supplied by the DC Essential Bus. If the DC Essential Bus is lost, the 28 VDC Back-up power supply is ensured through a 10 seconds timer in the TDO Relays, time TRAINING necessary for the Ram Air Turbine (RAT) deployment.
