The Apparatus Information Book is to be a one-inch, three-ring binder and kept inside the driver’s side door of each apparatus. This book should be particularly helpful to members who are assigned to vacation relief, acting, and STNW assignments. APPLICATION This section intentionally left blank. OPERATIONAL POLICY This section intentionally left blank. OPERATIONAL GUIDELINE It is to be the responsibility of the assigned engineer to maintain and update the Apparatus Information Book. The company officer is to be responsible for ensuring members under their command are familiar with the contents of this book. PROCESS This section intentionally left blank. Section 310.003 Page 1 of 4 INFORMATION Each Apparatus Information Book is to contain information specific to the apparatus to which it is assigned. The book is divided into the following sections: Section I: Specifications 1. A specification sheet listing vital statistics about the apparatus is to be kept in this section. Section II: Instructions 1. Air Brake Test (See: Training and Equipment Manual, Section 310.001, Air-Brake System Inspection). 2. Pump operations (if applicable): a. b. c. d. e. Engaging the pump. Disengaging the pump. How to prime the pump. Pressure-control device. Auxiliary-cooling device. 3. Aerial operations (if applicable): a. b. c. d. e. f. g. h. i. j. k. Engaging the power take-off. Disengaging the PTO. Stabilizing the aerial. Raising, rotating, and extending the aerial. Bedding the aerial ladder. Using the umbilical air system. Using the ladder pipe. Using the generator. Using the emergency pump. Optimum climbing angles. Load limitations. 4. Special characteristics of the apparatus (i.e., aerial ladder is equipped with a flow meter). a. Troubleshooting information on the apparatus (i.e., what the operator should check if the pump will not engage). 6. Long-term deficiencies and/or peculiarities concerning the apparatus. a. Space is to be afforded for future entries in this area. b. This information is to be dated and initialed by the person making the entry to the book. Section III: Inventory 1. Apparatus inventories are found in the K drive and PS-Trax. Section IV: Checklists 1. All checks are now done digitally. Section V: Hose and Tarp Inventory 1. The current hose and tarp inventory is to be kept in this section. Section VI: Pump Operator’s Guide 1. The Department pump operator’s guide is to be kept in this section.
