What is an An electric field is the region or area around a charged particle in which a force due to that charged particle Electric can be felt. Field? Elecrtic field lines are drawn to represent an electric field. They have a directional arrow indicating the Electric field direction of the field Lines Field lines usually leave the positive charge and move toward the negative charge The number of electric field lines per unit area gives the strength of the electric field. Electric Field Patterns - Due to an isolated positive charge Electric Field Pattern Description Radially outwards Symmetrical Non-uniform – since the field lines are closest to each other at the centre, the field strength is strongest there. Note the direction of the arrows in both diagrams The region in the middle where there are no x field lines indicates that no force due to the charges is exerted in that region. Any point in that area will be called a neutral point. Point x is a neutral point. Electric field strength is constant for a uniform field.
