XLOC How to guide Version 04/23 Table of Content Click on hyperlink to access content • 1. Setting Up • What is Xloc? • Logging in Xloc • 2. How to use Xloc? • • • • • • • Finding your project Searching through strings (3 Slides) Expanding the Results Columns Selecting the right text file (2 Slides) Editing a string (2 Slides) String Details Adding comments What is Xloc? XLOC is a computer assisted translation (CAT) tool that allows testers and translators to edit the text of the game. Logging in Xloc • Credentials will be available in Project Info or provided by the lead. Make sure you use the right credentials for the language you are assigned. • Entering the incorrect credentials 3 times or more will lock all users out of Xloc, so always ensure that you are entering the details correctly - if you fail twice, stop trying and double check that your account is still active with your lead. • Go to the second tab “Language” Finding your project • At the top of the screen, select User Profile • Select your project from the drop down and select Change • If you are unsure about the project, ask the lead or check Project Info Searching through strings • Select the first tab on the left “Strings”, you can ignore the rest in the column • Use Search bar to locate a String ID, source, or translation. Searching through strings • Use Search bar to narrow your search and locate specific String ID, source, or translation. To do that, select from the dropdown above search bar. If you can’t find a string, select ‘Clear Search Settings’ and try again. Make sure you select the right filter depending on what you are looking for: ID, translation or source. • Note: if you are copying and pasting text or a string ID into the search bar, selecting Enter may just break a line in the text field if the string is longer than one line, if that happens mouse click the magnifier glass to search. Searching through strings • Testers can also use the 'Contains' tab to further narrow their search for a string. • This search tool can help you turn a search that reveals hundreds of results into just the one you are searching for. • Note: when using options such as 'Ends With', and 'Exact', the search includes any punctuation, so always double check you have entered the search exactly as you want it so that Xloc can find the string. Expanding the Results Columns • Below the search filters, the 'Results columns' filter can be found. • Testers can use this filter to show more details regarding the string(s) that they are searching for from the results page. • This can help testers observe important details such as the last time the string was edited, why it was edited, and can even help testers find a string in game with the 'String Notes' option. • Once you have selected the details you wish to view, search for a new string, scroll down, then to the right, and you will have the new tabs you have requested – which will appear as shown below. Some of the extra details we can view when we search. Selecting the right text file • Some project might have multiple text files within XLOC, divided each text file into a different category such as dialogue, UI and platform-specific text Selecting the right text file • If ALL is selected then the strings for every file listed should be searchable. If there are options this can be used to filter searches to a specific category, which can be helpful when searching for specific strings. Editing a string • After entering a search, see the result at the bottom of the screen. • Be very wary if you are editing XLOC by copying and pasting Changelog cells, because sometimes Excel adds an extra line break or puts the text in quotation marks. Editing a string • Be aware that double clicking on a string from the search results will open the string for a 'Quick edit'. • If this happens, be sure to click Cancel and not 'OK' – even if the testers has not made any physical changes to the string, the client will receive a notification telling them that the string has been edited. String Details • The String Details page can also be used to identify dialogue, which can be helpful when you are given a string without context. • At the bottom of the details page there will be a list that identifies a speaker, an addressee, and their genders. • These fields will only be filled for dialogue though, they will appear blank otherwise. Adding comments • Some clients (2K, for example) will require you to add comments to justify text edits. THANK YOU We want to keep this guide up to date and relevant for all departments.
