It is used in the same way as we would use a normal calculator, being able to do it by pressing its buttons with the cursor, or directly with the keyboard, typing the relevant numbers and arithmetic signs. By default, the **standard calculator is displayed** with the **basic functions**: add, subtract, multiply, divide, etc. If we switch to another calculator, the next time we launch the application our last choice will open. The standard calculator looks like this. ![Calendar Description automatically generated](media/image4.png) The menu to select other functions is displayed with the icon to the left of the word STANDARD. This menu basically has two sections. In the first one we can choose between different types of calculators: **Standard**, **Scientific** and **Programmer**. While the next section turns the calculator into a value converter. The type of conversion to be carried out must be selected in the List: **Volume**, **Length**, **Weight** & **Mass**, **Temperature**, **Energy**, **Area**, **Speed**, **Time**, **Power**, **Data**, **Pressure** and **Angle**. Graphical user interface, application Description automatically generated Scientific calculators usually include a good number of mathematical and calculation functions of functions (trigonometry,e logarithms, etc.). The Windows 10 scientific calculator looks like this: ![Calendar Description automatically generated](media/image6.png) On the other hand, calculators for programming contain conversion functions between numerical systems (binary, octal or hexadecimal) and logical functions, among other basic functions, of course. Calendar Description automatically generated Conversion functions, on the other hand, show the value to be converted and the result to another type of unit of measure. Obviously, in all types of converters, we have drop-down lists to select the unit to convert. A simple example of course is the conversion of temperatures, from degrees Fahrenheit to degrees Celsius or to degrees Kelvin. ![Table Description automatically generated with medium confidence](media/image8.png) **Notepad** **Notepad is a very basic text editor, which doesn\'t support text formatting** Text Description automatically generated with medium confidence It is very useful when we want to write something down, as it is more agile than opening a word processor more powerful. On the other hand, it can open virtually all file types. Of course, this does not mean that they are all understandable to us. For example, when you open a JPG image, you\'ll only find symbols that don\'t make sense to you. But if, instead, we open a **WordPad** Wordpad is another text editor, but unlike Notepad, it does support formatted text ![](media/image10.png) Graphical user interface, application, Word Description automatically generated **The Voice Recorder** **The Voice Recorder allows us to record an audio file using a microphone** ![](media/image12.png) This is a very basic recorder. By clicking on the **microphone icon** we will begin to record, as long as we have a microphone connected. That same icon allows us to stop recording. In the left panel, the recorded audios appear and on the right the possibility of playing them. It is a Simple but very useful tool for taking screenshots. When you open it, the screen becomes translucent. If we make a selection with the cursor, the area selected will open in a basic snipping editor. In it we can underline or write by hand raised over the image and save it in the format we want: GIF, PNG, JPG and MHT. We may also send it by email. ![Graphical user interface, application, Teams Description automatically generated](media/image18.png) **Windows Media Player** ![Graphical user interface, text Description automatically generated](media/image20.png) **Laptop Mobility Center** A picture containing text, computer, electronics, screenshot Description automatically generated ![Graphical user interface, application Description automatically generated](media/image22.png) **Microsoft Edge** ##### Microsoft Edge is the web browser that comes with Windows. Looking at the window from top to bottom we find: ![Graphical user interface Description automatically generated](media/image24.png) - The tabs with which we can have several pages open at the same time, one on each flap, to alternate them. - - The **address bar**, where the web address (***url***) of the page we want to visit is written or we view the web address of the page we are visiting at that moment. That same box works as an Internet search box. - The **toolbar** in which various buttons and menus useful for browsing the Internet are located: favorites, tools, etc. - The **area for web browsing**, where the visited page is opened as such. In this case we are seeing the default page of the browser. **News, Weather, Money and Sports.** One more of the many new features of Windows 10, although already included since version 8, is the presence of applications with online information. Thanks to them, we can keep ourselves permanently informed of topics such as the news of the day, the weather, the evolution of the stock market and sports, but not only. These applications are found both in the Start menu list and in the tiles or \"Tiles\", where we can also see a thumbnail of their content. **Mail, Calendar, and Contacts** ![A picture containing text Description automatically generated](media/image27.png) Mail, Calendar, and Contacts are three applications that, although they can run independently, are linked to each other. **Mail**, as its name suggests, is an application that is used to consult, read, send and receive emails. Its antecedent, of course, is the application called **Outlook**. This version has the peculiarity that it allows us to integrate, in the same application, the web email accounts that we have. That is, if we have Yahoo, Gmail and some other accounts, we can add them to the application and thus we will have all our email in one place. On the other hand, **Calendar** is the agenda that will allow us to record appointments and events. Finally, **Contacts** keeps a record of the existing contacts in our email account, as well as those we indicate in the **Calendar**. As we mentioned before, these are three of the various applications that require us to log in to Windows 10 with a Microsoft account. Graphical user interface, application, website Description automatically generated ![Graphical user interface, application Description automatically generated](media/image29.png) Graphical user interface, text, application Description automatically generated **Accounts**: Displays a list of email accounts that we have added to the app. **Folders**: These are the typical folders that allow you to organize your emails: Inbox, Outbox, Drafts, etc. On the right side we will see the elements that correspond to what is selected on the left. For example, if we click on a folder, we will see the messages it contains, the same if we click on a different account, and so on. To view a particular mail, we click on it and the area on the right will display the contents, of course. Below we have a small bar with icons for the use of the application. From there we can activate the **Calendar application**, by clicking on its icon, as well as open the Email Settings. The **Calendar** app, as we\'ll see a little later, has an identical bar. ![](media/image31.png) When you click on the settings icon (the gear on the right), a menu opens in the window with which you can register other accounts (or delete them at any time), customize the application, configure quick replies, etc. Graphical user interface, application Description automatically generated Calendar, on the other hand, allows you to register and consult appointments and events. In the previous unit we easily recorded an appointment through **Cortana**, which was left in our calendar, so its use is particularly simple. When you open the application you have the following appearance: ![Graphical user interface Description automatically generated with medium confidence](media/image33.png) Days with registered appointments can be easily seen whenever the app highlights them. In turn, with a click on any day the form opens that will allow us to register new appointments, although, as we have already seen, we can simply tell **Cortana**. In turn, **Cortana** also allows us to check the day\'s agenda, but a click on the calendar also offers us a view of the recorded events. Graphical user interface, text, application, chat or text message Description automatically generated Finally, the **Contacts** application will allow us to consult the mailing lists and numbers of people that we register in any of our accounts, that includes the **Calendar**, the added email accounts, Phone, Skype, etc. As this list can grow considerably, the application highlights a search box to facilitate data consultations. ![Graphical user interface, application Description automatically generated](media/image35.png) Obviously, in the same application we can add new contacts, which in turn will appear in the rest of the aforementioned applications. All always under the premise that we are in a session with a Microsoft account. Pressing the + button opens the form to indicate the contact. Graphical user interface, text, application Description automatically generated ![Graphical user interface, text, application Description automatically generated](media/image38.png) The buttons in the bottom right corner allow us to add and remove items. With the + sign we add alarms and with the next icon we can remove them. However, the limitation of alarms is that the device needs to be turned on to work, so as an alarm clock it does not seem very useful. Moreover, we also have an international clock. Again, the plus sign will allow us to add sites. Graphical user interface Description automatically generated The timer is a countdown, useful, for example, if we leave something in the kitchen while working on the computer. While the stopwatch has an accuracy of up to hundredths of a second. ![Graphical user interface, application Description automatically generated](media/image40.png) active WiFi connection, these are free, as long as they are from one **Skype account** to another of the same.
