LESSON 2 SOCIAL, MOBILE, AND ASSISTIVE MEDIA 4 How do you look for updates of what happen to California lately? 5 Has it ever occurred to you how a person with a disability enjoys using mobile devices like smartphones or tablets? How does a blind person use websites that offer chat features? 6 LEARNING OBJECTIVES Define social media Differentiate the types of social media from one another Describe the technologies included in mobile media Appreciate assistive media as aid for persons with disabilities DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY SOCIAL MEDIA MOBILE MEDIA ASSISTIVE MEDIA SOCIAL MEDIA websites or applications that give people the capability to exchange messages as well as share and receive information and media contents with one another using their social media account linked to a social network. TYPES OF SOCIAL MEDIA 1 Social Networking Sites 2 Media-sharing Sites 3 Discussion Sites 4 Bookmarking and Content Curation Sites 5Blogging and Publishing Network Site 6 Consumer Review Networks 1 SOCIAL NETWORKING SITES - the most popular type of social media due to their capability to provide users with a real-time conversation via text messages, audio, or video chat. - paved the way for the formation of “virtual communities” that enable people from around the world to form channels for information exchanges. 2 MEDIA-SHARING SITES - for individuals whose primary purpose is to share multimedia contents like photographs, audio files, or videos. - serve as a storage facility using cloud technology, making shared media accessible for viewing and downloading anywhere and anytime. 3 DISCUSSION SITES - designed for individuals who are avid fans of forums and debates. - also serves as an avenue for people to get answers to their questions about a specific subject, and the members of the discussion site who have expertise or credibility concerning the matter at hand will provide information, solutions, or advice. 14 15 4 BOOKMARKING AND CONTENT CURATION SITES - platform or service where users can save, organize, and store links to webpages, images, videos, or other types of online content that they find useful or interesting. - these saved links, often called "bookmarks," are typically categorized or tagged to make them easier to find later. 17 5 BLOGGING AND PUBLISHING NETWORK SITES - provide users with the tools that will help them to publish their content in a creative and engaging manner. It builds a link between the content creator and the target audience, enabling both parties to exchange their views and opinions regarding the displayed material. 19 6 CONSUMER REVIEW NETWORKS - are social media sites for people who want to provide and share information about different products. - the comments, reviews, or ratings posted on the websites by consumers can help future customers to decide if they are going to avail of the same products.
