# The Relationship Between the Priest and the Ministry **I. The Philosophy of the Priest's Relationship with the Ministry:** * The church is a living body with each member having a unique role, working together for the building of the church and the glory of Christ. * The priest's service in unity is essential; in cooperation they work together as the Holy Trinity without blending their work or roles. * The priest leads the ministry as a collective, accountable to the leadership of the church. * The priest is an agent of God’s secrets, leading the entire congregation and also as the spiritual father of all ministers. **II. Foundations of Collective Leadership:** * The presence of Christ in the life of the priest and the ministers—unity and harmony in service. The absence of Christ can cause division—which is a great danger. * Love is the bond of perfection. (Colossians 3:14) Unity of heart is the key to love and must be sought in the divine liturgy. * Humility—both the priest and the ministers need to be ready to surrender themselves in order to meet together in unity. **III. Collective Leadership of the Priest:** * Allocating time to the spiritual care of the flock (prayer, visitation, teaching) * Training new leaders and developing those already in the ministry. * Fostering a generation of active and contributing ministers. * Developing creativity, innovation, and improvement in ministry while respecting Orthodox principles
