It can be applied more than once on less sensitive areas. There is little risk of the skin burning when using the wax. Warm wax heats to a temperature of 43 degrees. The main ingredients of warm wax are: Either organic substances (e.g. honey or glucose syrup), paraffin wax or rubber latex. Synthetic resins Healing and antiseptic agents such as tea tree oil or witch hazel. This type of wax does not set; it remains soft at body temperature and is removed by applying a paper or fabric strip over the top. It is best suited for hairs over 1cm e.g. legs, arms, and eyebrows LCBT Copyright 2016-17 THE WORLD CLASS PROVIDER OF B EA U T Y , M A KE- U P & F IT NES S T RA IN ING Hot wax Hot wax is becoming more popular in the industry. Hot wax is best suited for coarse hairs and sensitive areas. It is mainly used in the underarm and bikini area, but certain brands can be used on the face also. Hot wax heats to a temperature of 68 degrees. As it is a warmer temperature it soothes and opens the follicles. The wax is left to cool and then becomes dry and opaque as it sets. No wax strips are needed to remove the hot wax, the end is flicked up and removed in one full piece. Extra care must be used when applying the hot wax as it may cause accidental burns. Due to the hot temperature of the wax, it cannot be re-applied to the area. The technique has been handed down by middle-eastern women over the years who still practice this technique of hair removal today. The sugar paste is made from natural ingredients such as sugar, water, lemon juice and oil. Hand sugar paste is warmed to 37C, which is body temperature LCBT Copyright 2016-17 THE WORLD CLASS PROVIDER OF Sugar paste B EA U T Y , M A KE- U P & F IT NES S T RA IN ING It is worked in the therapist’s hand until it starts to warm into a treacle-like consistency. The paste is then spread and dragged over the hairs in the direction of hair growth. To remove the paste the edges are flicked inwards towards the centre of the patch, and the paste is worked into a small ball and then removed. Strip sugar is applied and removed in the same manner as warm wax, however normally a sterile metal spatula and fabric strips will be used. The product can be heated in its tub in the microwave and is therefore popular with mobile therapists, although care must be taken so that the product does not burn. LCBT Copyright 2016-17 THE WORLD CLASS PROVIDER OF Roller wax B EA U T Y , M A KE- U P & F IT NES S T RA IN ING Roller wax is a system that uses pre-filled disposable roll-on/glide on applicators to apply warm wax. It is a very hygienic method of waxing as disposable heads are used to carry out the treatment and changed for every client. LCBT Copyright 2016-17 THE WORLD CLASS PROVIDER OF Cold wax B EA U T Y , M A KE- U P & F IT NES S T RA IN ING Cold wax is applied cold, straight from the container (although some do need warming) using a clean spatula. This product is designed for home use and usually uses a cellophane strip to remove, although sometimes a paper strip is used instead. It is not very economical on large areas, as quite a lot of strips will need to be used.
