**TYPES OF FRACTIONS** **Types of Fractions** In Maths, there are three major types of fractions: proper fractions, improper fractions, and mixed fractions. These fractions are defined based on the numerator and denominator, which are used to determine the parts of a whole object. In addition to these three types, there are also like and unlike fractions, as well as equivalent fractions. These six types of fractions are important for understanding and comparing different quantities in real-life scenarios. **Proper Fractions** A proper fraction is a fraction where the numerator is less than the denominator. This type of fraction is used to represent a part of a whole object, and its value is always less than 1. For example, 1/4 represents one out of four equal parts of a whole object. Proper fractions are important for understanding and working with fractions in everyday situations. **Improper Fractions** An improper fraction is a fraction where the numerator is greater than the denominator. This type of fraction can also represent a part of a whole object, but its value is equal to or greater than 1. For example, 3/2 represents three out of two equal parts of a whole object. Improper fractions are important for representing and comparing larger quantities. **Mixed Fractions** A mixed fraction is a combination of a whole number and a proper fraction. It is essentially an improper fraction, but it is written in a different format. Mixed fractions are useful for representing and converting between whole numbers and fractions. They are also important for solving more complex fraction problems. **Like and Unlike Fractions** Like fractions are fractions that have the same denominator, while unlike fractions have different denominators. Like fractions are easier to work with, as their denominators are the same, making simplification and comparison simpler. Unlike fractions require more steps to simplify and compare, as their denominators are different. Both types of fractions are important for understanding and working with fractions in various situations. **Equivalent Fractions** Equivalent fractions are fractions that have the same value, even though they may look different. This means that they represent the same portion of a whole object. For example, 1/2 and 2/4 are equivalent fractions, as they both represent half of a whole object. Equivalent fractions are important for simplifying and comparing fractions, as well as converting between different forms of fractions.
