Format of treatment plan General Format Manage patient chief complaint Eliminate pain and significant disease Elective procedures Breaking the tx into several smaller phases General Form P h a s e I : Priority Treatment P h a s e I I : Disease Control P h a s e I I I : Restoration of function and esthetic P h a s e V I : Re-evaluation and recall S Pulpal Involvement Temporary Restoration Rampant Caries Managing Mucosal Lesions Is it 100% accurate ? >> Taking in consideration that practitioner is dealing with a patient who is living biologic system, the dentist can only ANTICIPATE treatment results and cannot necessarily be assured that those results will occur. What can be done, then ! >> The treatment strategy that may: 1- Require adjustments. 2- Change Therefore, Time must pass before the success of treatment and prognosis can be determined. Treatment Plan Optimum Tx plan Convenient Tx plan Alternative Treatment Plan WHY ??? Provide patients with different treatment option to customize the plan to the patients condition within the scientific sound solutions. Factors affecting Tx Plan 1- Patient Systemic health 2- Age 3- Pt Expectations 4- Psychologic Factors 5- Existing dental condition 6- Operator experience 7- Prognosis Age can indicate the relative size of the pulp chamber. First: The dentist should determine a diagnosis, which includes factors such as, the presence and absence of caries and periodontal diseases, the location and numbers of missing teeth. EXISTING Second: The dentist should consider what possible treatment for the existing DENTAL condition. CONDITION Finally, the dentist decides which treatment option will provide the best long-term prognosis How emergency TTT affects the TTT plan: Financial factors shouldn’t affect the dentist’s formulation of the best dental treatment FINANCIAL CONSIDERATIONS plan. Modifications may be made to the plan to make it less expensive, or to deliver only the initial phase of care and to postponed other phases. EXAMPLES ? Amalgam Vs Tooth colored Restorations Implant Vs Bridge Fixed Vs Removable Prognosis of Tx Plan Prognosis: To predict the final outcome of a disease. 1- Teeth with STABLE prognoses: No major problem 2- Teeth with GUARDED prognoses: Poor for retention but only for adequate length of time 3- Teeth with DIMINISHED Prognoses: Very limited time and will be changed 4- Teeth with HOPLESS prognoses: are defined as teeth that cannot be maintained and are indicated for removal.
