WEEK 1 Inquiries, Investigations, and Immersion MR. RANDOLPH DG. BERNARDINO WEEK 1 LESSON 1 “Review the Research Writing Process” WEEK 1 Research Systematic investigation and study of materials and sources to establish facts and reach new conclusion (Prieto, Naval, and Carey, 2017) Careful, critical, disciplined inquiry, varying in technique and method according to the conditions and problems identified, directed towards the clarifications and or resolution of a problem (1963, cited in Calderon & Gonzales, 2015) WEEK 1 Types of Research QUANTITATIVE RESEARCH kind of research that quantifies the collection and analysis of data involved in the process through the use of appropriate statistical strategies. QUALITATIVE RESEARCH things in their own natural settings, attempting to makes senses of, or to interpret phenomenon in terms of the meanings of people.” (Shank, 2002; Ospina, 2004) MIXED-METHOD RESEARCH kind of research, data are not quantified but rather analyzed and interpreted using a framework or lens chosen by the researchers. In conducting & writing a research paper, these are the basic steps that you need to do: 1. Choose a research topic 1. Choose a Research Topic Remember that when you choose a topic, it must be: your interest, contributory to the concerned stakeholders and feasible. These can be best done through brainstorming, preliminary reviewing of existing research gaps on different studies, and critical reading and observation. In conducting & writing a research paper, these are the basic steps that you need to do: 2. Prepare a Proposal 2. Prepare a Proposal The preparation of a proposal is for approval of the research endeavor. The research proposal document is endorsed through a letter that outlines the profile of the researchers, the background and intent of the intended study, and the appeal for approval. 2. Prepare a Proposal The letter is accompanied by the researcher proposal that usually contains the following parts: abstract, rationale, statement of objective/statement of the problem, theoretical framework, planned methodology, some supporting literature and studies and expected results. 2. Prepare a Proposal Abstract Brief summary of the whole proposal It mat contain 100-250 words in total. Rationale Part where the research endeavor is justified. Strengthened by citing sources that to accomplish in the research. 2. Prepare a Proposal Rationale Remember that when you craft your objectives or questions, these should be SMART: ❖Specific ❖Measurable ❖Attainable ❖Realistic ❖Time-bound 2. Prepare a Proposal Theoretical Frameworks Guides you on how you look at your problem. Planned Methodology Mention the research design, the sample and sample technique, the instruments to use, and the most importantly, the procedures you will do in gathering data and the ways you will analyze them. 2. Prepare a Proposal Supporting Literature & Studies The proposal presents some literature and studies that support your study. Expected Results The assumptions that can be associated with your objectives or problem In conducting & writing a research paper, these are the basic steps that you need to do: 3. Write the Background of the Study 3. Write the Background of the Study Studying the setting and context of the problem under study, you can now write your first chapter The Problem and Its Background. This chapter contains the Introduction, Statement of the Problem/Objectives, Scope and Limitation, Significance of the study, and Definition of Terms. 3. Write the Background of the Study Introduction Presents the overview of the research. Statement of the Problem/Objectives Lists the target goals or the research questions that the research intends to find out. Scope and Limitations Explains the boundary of the research what is only expected of it. 3. Write the Background of the Study Significance of the Study Enumerates the different individuals, institutions, or organizations that benefits from the outcome of the study. Definition of Terms Contains a lists of the keywords and other important concepts in the study, and these terms can be defined conceptually or operationally. In conducting & writing a research paper, these are the basic steps that you need to do: 4. Review Related Literature and Studies 4. Review Related Literature and Studies Review Related Literature and Studies Thematic RRLS – presents the discussion based on a theme. Chronological RRLS – expounds the review in terms of when the literature or study was conducted or published. Geographical Approaches – segregates the review in terms of where the literature or study was conducted (local or foreign). 4. Review Related Literature and Studies RRLS are further divided into whether they are literature or studies. Take note that studies are researches conducted and published related to your study, and all other sources can be taken as literature. You review can be concluded with a synthesis of the reviewed literature and studies. In conducting & writing a research paper, these are the basic steps that you need to do: 5. Design Your Research Methodology 5. Design your Research Methodology This is the third chapter of your research paper Decide on the research design, the sampling technique, instrumentation, statistical tool, and the data gathering and analysis procedure. Each of the parts mentioned varies depending on the study you are doing. 5. Design your Research Methodology Research Design: ❖ Descriptive - aims to accurately and systematically describe a population, situation or phenomenon. (McCombes, 2019) ❖ Case Study (detailed study of a specific subject, such as a person, group, place, event, organization, or phenomenon. (McCombes, 2019) 5. Design your Research Methodology Research Design: ❖ Action Research - is a research method that aims to simultaneously investigate and solve an issue. (George, 2023) ❖ Phenomenology - the study of structures of consciousness as experienced from the first-person point of view. (Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, 2013) 5. Design your Research Methodology Research Design: ❖ Ethnography - a research method central to knowing the world from the standpoint of its social relations. (Princeton University, 2024) In conducting & writing a research paper, these are the basic steps that you need to do: 6. Present your Data Analysis and Interpretation 6. Present Your Data Analysis and Interpretation Expounds on the collected data They are organized in tables, graphs, or narratives. The presentation is followed by the analysis and your interpretation as a researchers. Discussion is aligned with the Statement of the Problem/Objectives. In conducting & writing a research paper, these are the basic steps that you need to do: 7. Write Your Conclusions and Recommendations 7. Write Your Conclusions and Recommendations This is last part of your research Known as Summary of Findings, Conclusions, and Recommendations 7. Write Your Conclusions and Recommendations Summary of Findings – is an encapsulation of the analysis and interpretations Conclusions – ideas that you deduced considering the findings Recommendation – consist of possible gaps that other researchers may want to study or improvements on the perceived weakness of the research SUMMARY WEEK 1 Research - systematic investigation and study of materials and sources to establish facts and reach new conclusion (Prieto, Naval, and Carey, 2017) Types of Research: 1. Quantitative Research 2. Qualitative Research 3. Mixed-method Research In conducting & writing a research paper, these are the basic steps that you need to do: 1. Choose a research topic 2. Prepare a proposal 3. Write the background of the study 4. Review related literature and studies 5. Design your research methodology 6. Present your data analysis and interpretation 7.
