Summary
This presentation details the theory of continental drift, proposed by Alfred Wegener in 1915. It outlines the evidence supporting the theory, such as the matching of continents and the distribution of fossils. The presentation also discusses various examples of fossils and rock formations.

CONTINENTAL DRIFT THEORY Prepared by: Yheshinne Oscar & Jheamie Cuevas The Continental Drift Theory was proposed by Alfred Wegener in 1912. According to Wegener, 250 million years ago, all of the continents were combined into one super continent called "Pangaea". The continents gradually drifted apart to where they are today. EVIDENCES 1.) The Matching of Continents (that is Jig- Saw-Fit) 2.) Rocks of Same Age Across the Oceans 3.) Tillite 4.) Placer Deposit 5.) Distribution of Fossils 1.) Puzzle Pieces -Conrinents look like they could be part of a giant jigsaw puzzle. 2.) Rock formations - Ages and types of rocks matched across oceans. - Mountain chains seemed to continue from one continent to another. - Similar rock structures found on different continents. - rocks found in Appalachian Mountains similar to rocks in Greenland and western Europe. - Rock structures from Eastern South America similar to western africa. 3.) TILLITE -It is the Sedimentary rock made from glacial deposits. - The Gondwana system of sediments is recognized as having its counterparts. Inb 600 defperent landmasses in the southern hemisphere. 4.) PLACER DEPOSITS - in geology, a placer deposit or placer is an accumulation of valuable minerals formed by gravity separation from a specific source rock during sedimentary processes. 5. DISTRIBUTION OF FOSSILS LYSTROSAURUS -which literally means "shovel reptile" -it was dinominant on land in the early thiassic, 250 million years ago. It is thought to have been "herbivorous" and grew to approximately one meter in length, with a stocky build like a pig. CYNOGNATHUS -is an extinct mammal -like reptile. The name literally means "dog jaw". Cynognathus was a large as a modern wolf and lived during the early to mid Triassic period (250 to 240 million years ago). It is found as fossils only in South America and Africa. -relatives of wolf "carnivore". MESOSAURUS - meaning "middle lizard" is an extinct genus of reptile from the early permian of southern Africa and South America with an elongated body, flattened tail and a long narrow snout with numerous pointed teeth. The Lystrosaurus, Cynognathus, Mesosaurus is compared to a 1.8 meter tall person. GLOSSOPTERIS -genus of fossilized woody plants known from rocks that have been dated to the permian and triassic periods(roughly 300 to 200 million years ago), deposited on the southern super continent of Gondwana. Summary Alfred Wegener Proposed the theory of continental drift in 1915. Continental Drift Theory States that continents were once a single landmass, then slowly and gradually moved to reach their present-day positions Thank you!
