La Guía de Programas Educativos de Gijón: Estructura, Oferta y Condiciones de Participación para los Centros. ## El Departamento de Educación de la FMCEYUP - The municipality of Gijón/Xixón, through the Fundación Municipal de Cultura, Educación y Universidad Popular (FMCEyUP), has developed over the past 40 years a wide-ranging and diversified educational offering that adapts to the needs of all age groups, from childhood to old age. - These programs are focused on improving the quality of life of the population through the promotion of education, culture, and social participation. - The FMCEyUP, throughout its history, has been key in the management of these programs, ensuring that education is accessible to all citizens, regardless of their origin, socioeconomic situation or age. ## El Departamento de Educación de la Fundación Municipal de Cultura, Educación y Universidad Popular de Gijón (FMCE y UP) - Integrated into the Division of Education, Youth and Popular University, it coordinates a wide variety of educational programs aimed at the educational community of the city, covering activities during the school year and during non-teaching periods. - These initiatives include both cultural and scientific activities, bringing the cultural heritage of Gijón closer to schoolchildren and facilitating family reconciliation through initiatives such as "Esparciendo Cultura" and summer programs with workshops, theater, music, and more. ## Los Programas Educativos en el Municipio de Gijón/Xixón: Historia y Situación Actual - The history of educational programs in Gijón/Xixón is a reflection of the city's commitment to education. - This effort has evolved since the early 1980s, with the aim of improving the quality of teaching and transforming the city into an active agent of the educational process. - The first steps were taken in 1982 with the creation of La Casa del Maestro, a training space for local teachers, which facilitated the exchange of ideas and the development of innovative teaching materials. - This initiative marked the beginning of an educational network that integrated the demands of the teaching staff with the institutional support of the City Council. ## The first projects highlighted are the creation of the programs “Descubrimos la ciudad” and “Descubrimos la naturaleza” - Programs that promoted active and participatory learning, using urban and natural resources of Gijón as educational tools. - These programs transformed factories, markets and other local spaces into "living classrooms," where students could learn in a practical way. - This approach established a closer relationship between the city and the school, involving social actors such as entrepreneurs and representatives of public entities. ## Over the following decades, the educational offering of Gijón expanded and diversified. - The I Educational Project of the City (2000-2002) was a key strategic plan to consolidate the role of education in local development. - The project started from the idea that education should not depend only on formal institutions, but should involve the entire community. - Collaboration between families, businesses, and cultural organizations was promoted, creating an inclusive and participatory educational environment. ## Besides, Gijón/Xixón is part of the International Association of Educator Cities (AICE) and, within Spain, is an active member of the State Network of Educator Cities (RECE). - The city was coordinator of the network during the period 2022-2023, standing out for its focus on education for sustainability, social inclusion, and gender equality. - The projects promoted during this period were not only aimed at schoolchildren but also at the general public, promoting cultural and social participation activities. ## In this context, Gijón has developed programs such as “Escuelas de Familias”, - Which promotes positive parenting and provides support to families in their educational work. - This program reflects the comprehensive vision of education that is applied in the city, where not only children and young people are included, but also families and the whole community. - The implementation of these programs has had a significant impact, mobilizing resources and people to create a diverse educational offering, ranging from artistic activities to science and environment programs. ## Currently, the educational offering in Gijón/Xixón is diverse, inclusive, and of high quality. - It is designed to serve all age groups, from childhood to old age, and is managed by the Fundación Municipal de Cultura, Educación, and Universidad Popular (FMCEyUP). - These programs range from formal education to continuing education, adapting to current and future educational demands. ## For early childhood and primary education levels, the programs are designed to complement formal education, developing creativity, critical thinking, and environmental awareness from a young age. - Children participate in visits to cultural spaces, art and music workshops, and environmental education programs that teach the importance of caring for the environment. - These programs focus not only on academic development, but also on emotional and social growth, teaching children to work in teams, respect others, and value learning. ## In secondary and baccalaureate education, programs focus on developing key competencies, preparing students for future challenges in both the academic and personal realm. - Workshops on communication, critical thinking, problem solving and career guidance allow students to explore different educational and professional options, helping them make informed decisions about their future. - These programs also promote essential skills such as teamwork and adaptability. ## In addition, Gijón/Xixón has a continuous educational and cultural offering that includes activities for all ages throughout the year. - The "Gijón con Ciencia" program promotes scientific culture through lectures, workshops, and exhibitions, making scientific knowledge accessible to the public. - The “Historia con Memoria” program also stands out, which promotes democratic culture and values of freedom and equality through educational resources focused on contemporary history and democratic memory, with special attention to the period of the II Republic, the Spanish Civil War and the Spanish Transition. ## The "Habitar" program - Offers resources to interpret the city as a space of coexistence, focused on the right to public space, mobility, and culture. - This program is coordinated with different municipal services and aims to build a fair and equal environment collectively. ## The program "Esparciendo cultura" - Coordinated by the FMCEyUP, is aimed at children and families. - It includes workshops, storytelling and shows that take place in integrated municipal centers and museums such as the Museo Casa Natal de Jovellanos. - This program is possible thanks to the support of the Corresponsables Plan of the Ministry of Equality, which aims to promote the reconciliation of personal and family life. - During the summer, the city offers urban camps, science and culture workshops and activities in spaces such as the Botanical Garden and the Aquarium. ## The Fundación Municipal de Cultura, Educación, and Universidad Popular (FMCEyUP) of Gijón/Xixón has a strong commitment to inclusive education, working in collaboration with different entities to ensure that all citizens, regardless of their abilities, have access to quality education. - Among its main partners are public and private educational centers, which actively participate in the programs offered, and the Educational and Psychopedagogical Guidance Team (EOEP), with which specialized support for students with specific educational needs is coordinated. - One of the most outstanding inclusive programs is "Parque con Apoyos," which offers leisure activities with support for children and young people with disabilities, focusing on accessibility and personalized support. - Additionally, the FMCEyUP collaborates with Municipal Infant Schools to ensure inclusive education from early childhood, promoting equal opportunities from the first years of schooling. ## In conclusion, educational programs in Gijón/Xixón have evolved to become an inclusive and diversified system that serves all ages and needs, integrating the city as a living educational space. - These programs reflect the commitment of the City Council to education and its ability to adapt to current and future educational demands. # La Guía de Programas Educativos de Gijón: Estructura, Oferta y Condiciones de Participación ## Each year, at the beginning of the school year, the Department of Education of the Fundación Municipal de Cultura, Educación y Universidad Popular de Gijón/Xixón publishes the Guide to Educational Programs. - It includes a wide range of complementary activities organized by city councils, services, and municipal companies. - For the 2024/2025 school year, more than 200 activities aimed at all educational levels are included, from the second cycle of Early Childhood Education to Baccalaureate, Vocational Training, and the Second Chance School, including Primary and Secondary. ## The topics and areas of knowledge covered by this offering are very diverse: - Cultural heritage, science, cinema, dance, theater, music, architecture, mural art, memory, health, and equality. - This variety allows schools to supplement the curricular content taught in the classroom. ## The novelties of the 2024/2025 school year include the program: "Artes escénicas para escolares en los Centros Municipales Integrados" - Which seeks to connect the performing arts with schools and their neighborhoods, and the environmental theater activity "Quien a buen árbol se arrima", which will be carried out in schoolyards or nearby parks. ## Also, the project "Mi cole es un museo" is introduced - Its objective is for students to experience art on a daily basis, collaborating with artists to beautify their schools. - The consolidated collaboration with the Professional Conservatory of Music and Dance of Gijón/Xixón continues, where students can learn about the preparation process of this center's students. ## Another relevant aspect - The incorporation of a specific program for the prevention of violence and bullying in schools, aimed at early childhood, primary and secondary education levels, to collaborate with the entire school community in the eradication of these problems. ## The program "Esparciendo cultura", - Which is carried out during non-teaching hours, continues to be part of the educational and cultural offering, expanding activities beyond the classroom and promoting the participation of students in the cultural life of the city. - This program reinforces the belonging of Gijón/Xixón to the State Network of Educating Cities (RECE), a network with which Gijón/Xixón has been closely linked. - It is worth remembering that in October 2023, the city hosted the XVI RECE Meeting, concluding the coordination period of the network that began in 2022. - Also, in November 2023, Gijón/Xixón hosted the annual meeting of the Network of Organizers of Educational Concerts, highlighting pioneering initiatives such as the "Música, maestro" program, which has been part of the city's schools for 25 years. ## The Guide is structured in several sections that allow schools to select the activities that best complement their curriculum and the needs of their students. - The main thematic areas cover diverse subjects and skills, such as cultural heritage, science, equality, health and well-being, new technologies, and others. ## Each program or activity is organized around four main blocks, - Reflecting the main dimensions of the educational offering: 1. "Convivir": Activities related to citizenship, equality, coexistence, and democratic values. 2. "Habitar": Programs focused on the knowledge of the environment, both natural and urban, and the development of skills for responsible use of space and resources. 3. "Crear": Section dedicated to artistic expression, where students can participate in theater, dance, film, music, and other creative disciplines. 4. "Descubrir": This block groups activities related to science, history, the environment, and technology, promoting discovery and curiosity about the world around students. ## Additionally, it includes a search engine for activities by educational level. - This facilitates the selection of the most suitable proposals for their groups by teachers. ## The Guide offers more than 200 activities that adapt to all educational levels, - From the second cycle of Early Childhood Education to Baccalaureate and Vocational Training. ## Each program is designed with a specific educational approach. - This allows teachers to select those that best complement the school curriculum. - Among the main areas covered by the educational offering are: - "Patrimonio cultural": Activities such as visits to museums and cultural routes that allow students to learn about the historical and cultural heritage of Gijón and Asturias. - "Science and environment": Proposals that promote scientific knowledge and environmental education, such as workshops, observation of birds, or the study of biodiversity in Monte Deva. - "Education in values": Programs that promote equality, coexistence, and respect for human rights, including workshops on gender equality, children's rights, and the fight against discrimination. - "Artistic expression": Activities focused on disciplines such as dance, theater, music and film, with special attention to creativity and the artistic development of students. -"New technologies": Initiatives that bring students closer to emerging technologies, including programming and the use of digital tools, promoting critical thinking and innovation. ## The participation in the educational programs is subject to a series of conditions. - Educational centers must comply correctly to ensure the smooth running of the activities. - These conditions are divided into logistical, registration, and joint responsibility aspects between centers and organizers. 1. "Resources and logistics": Each activity may have different logistical needs, such as the provision of transport or specific materials. It is important that centers inquire about the necessary resources in each case, as some activities include free transport, while others may require the preparation of materials or suitable clothing for the type of activity. 2. "Registration": Educational centers must register for the activities through the municipal website portal, using their citizen card and following the set deadlines for each program. In some cases, sending a request with the data of the teacher responsible is required. Activities are assigned according to the order of arrival of the requests, taking into account fairness in the participation of different centers and their proximity to the locations where activities are carried out. 3. "Number of participants": The maximum number of students per activity usually corresponds to the students in a classroom, although on occasion, this number may vary depending on the activity. This information will always be specified in the program description. 4. "Teacher's responsibility": It is mandatory that teachers are present during the development of the activities and actively collaborate in them. Additionally, after the conclusion of the activities, teachers must participate in the evaluation surveys determined by the Department of Education, to ensure the continuous improvement of the educational offering. ## The Guide also establishes the importance of assessment for continuous improvement in activities. - Educational centers and teachers participate in this assessment through electronic surveys that must be completed at the end of each activity. - This allows organizers to adjust and improve proposals based on the experiences and needs identified in each school year. ## Registration and Deadlines: - Registration for the activities is open throughout the month of September, and some activities have specific deadlines, as is the case of certain workshops or events such as film days or recycling competitions organized by the School Network. - The online registration platform facilitates the management of all requested activities, allowing centers to check the status of their requests in real time (granted, pending grant, in reserve, etc.). ## Conclusion: - The Guide to Educational Programs of Gijón/Xixón is a valuable resource for schools in the municipality, offering a wide range of activities designed to complement the school curriculum and promote the comprehensive development of students. - The diversity of thematic areas and flexibility in participation conditions allow schools to adapt proposals to their specific needs, contributing to a more complete and enriching education.
