# Geo-Inquiry for Livability in Your Community This document outlines a process for conducting a Geo-Inquiry to address issues of livability in a community. It details a series of steps designed to analyze data, map information, and ultimately develop actionable solutions. ## Steps in the Geo-Inquiry Process The process involves several key steps: **1. ASK** * Identifying an authentic Geo-Inquiry question about a specific community concern. * Formulating detailed follow-up questions to expand the initial question. For example, "How walkable is my town?" could be followed by questions about the presence of footpaths or bicycle infrastructure, and how people typically move around. **2. COLLECT** * Exploring relevant resources to gather geographic data to answer the questions. * This involves using resources like city and neighborhood maps, and contacting local government offices to access information on future development plans and existing infrastructure. **3. VISUALIZE** * Analyzing collected information from the previous step. * Organizing the data in a way that is easy to visualize and understand by others. * Creating relevant visuals to aid comprehension, including visuals like charts, graphs and maps. **4. CREATE** * Focusing on providing a coherent account of a Geo-Inquiry story. * Using data, research and imagery. * Developing strategies for presenting information to the chosen audience in order to inspire action. * Creating a list of elements to be used to tell the story, like images, videos or maps. **5. ACT** * Presenting the Geo-Inquiry story to residents and decision-makers. * Providing information that encourages community leaders to take action on the subject of the Geo-Inquiry. * This often involves working to motivate community leaders to address a particular problem, such as livability issues. ## Data Analysis Questions The document also includes specific questions related to analyzing temperature data for a specific location (Washington, D.C.): * **Question 14:** Identifying areas with the highest summer temperatures. * **Question 15:** Determining areas with the lowest temperatures and analyzing reasons behind it. * **Question 16:** Describing how to revitalize a specific area by utilizing smart-growth policies and New Urbanism, including how these ideas mitigate urban climate change. * **Question 17:** Identifying questions that should be asked in order to develop a comprehensive urban design and development plan for the identified area. **Image Description** The image accompanies a document and displays a map of Washington, D.C. The map shows different areas with varying colors, indicating different temperature ranges(August 28, 2018). A color-coded key is provided next to the map for temperature ranges (e.g. 101.9°F, 93.5°F, 85.4°F).
