**Spring 2025 1341 Exam 1 Review** Be able to distinguish between a pure elemental substance, pure compound substance, heterogeneous mixture, homogeneous mixture from a simple drawing Be able to determine the difference between ionic compounds and molecular compounds from a simple drawing. Know the separation methods for different types of mixtures Know the difference between chemical and physical properties Know all the endothermic phase changes (sublimation, fusion (melting), vaporization Know all the exothermic phase changes (deposition, freezing, condensation) Know extensive versus intensive properties Know your metric prefixes, what they mean, and be able to use them as conversion factors to convert one unit into the other. Know your significant figure rules for calculations Know precision and accuracy Calculate a simple average and determine whether a measurement accurate and precise Convert Kelvin to Celsius and Celsius to Kelvin Know Density (D = mass / volume) and be able to convert between mass, volume and density Determine a measurement to the correct number of significant figures (know the level of uncertainty for a measurement) Dimensional Analysis problems, several of them Know your periodic table and the properties for families of elements and periods Know the names of groups on the periodic table Know the names of the historically relevant scientists who determined the structure of the atom. Determine the percent composition of an element in a compound Determine the number of protons, neutrons, electrons in an isotope of an element or ion. Determine the Average Atomic Mass of an element based on the isotopic masses and their relative abundance. Know how to determine whether elements are isotopes Know how to distinguish a molecular compound from an ionic compound Know how to determine the empirical formula for a compound Be able to name both ionic and molecular compounds. Focus on the Activity we did in class. We will continue working on it or I will post a video. Name acids Convert grams to moles (divide by the molar mass) Convert moles to grams (multiply by the molar mass) Convert moles to molecules or atoms (multiply by 6.02 x 10\^23 (Avogadro's Number) Convert atoms of an element to grams of an element. (Divide by Avogadro's Number) I will be posting videos to help us move forward from where we ended to where we need to be on Thursday.
