Tourism and Culture in Mainland and Insular Southeast Asia It is located east of the Suez Canal and the Ural Mountains, and south of the Caucasus Mountains (or the Kuma–Manych Depression) and the Caspian and Black Seas. It is bounded east by the Pacific Ocean, south by the Indian Ocean, and north by the Arctic Ocean. Southeast Asia is a vast region of Asia situated east of the Indian subcontinent and south of China. It consists of two dissimilar portions: a continental projection (commonly called mainland Southeast Asia) and a string of archipelagoes to the south and east of the mainland (insular Southeast Asia). st r e g i o n of Asia Mainland a Asia is a v subcontinent and Southeast e Indian a te d e a s t o f th o f t w o d issimilar situ sist s t h o f C h ina. One of the world's most popular tourist destinations, and for a reason: a tropical climate, warm (or hot!) all year around, rich culture, gorgeous beaches, wonderful food travelers, and last but not least, low prices. While its history and modern-day politics are complex, most of it is also quite safe for the traveler and easy to travel around in. In 2021, Indonesia had the highest number of tourists among Southeast Asian countries, with approximately one million tourist arrivals. Comparatively, Brunei and Vietnam had approximately three thousand tourist arrivals in 2021. (Stated as of June 30, 2023 by S. Ganbold) Considering over 5 countries including Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam, Philippines and Indonesia, the total number of international arrivals in March reached 5,420,067, an increase of 247,745 arrivals (equivalent to about 4.79%) compared to February. Previously, the number of visitors to Southeast Asian countries in February increased by only 1% compared to January. Thailand maintained its leading position in the top most visited destination in SEA with 2,219,040 foreign visitors in March, double higher than Singapore in the second place (118%), and triple higher than the third rank – Vietnam (149%).
