Parenteral preparations).** | | # Cachets - Powders container (0.2 to 1.5 g). - Made of rice flour and water. - Administration of nauseating drugs. - Diagram of a cachet with labels for "wet seal cachet" and "dry seal cachet" # Capsules - There are two types of capsule, "hard" and "soft". - Made gelatin which is filled with medicines to produce a unit dose. - Administration of nauseating drugs. - Diagram of a hard gelatin capsule with labels for "cap", "powder", and "body" - Diagram of a soft gelatin capsule labeled "liquid" # Cream - Topical preparation. - Cold or vanishing cream. - Cold cream is an emulsion of water in oil. ## Cold cream preparation - Melt beeswax with mineral oil in a porcelain dish over a water bath to about 75°C. - Dissolve borax & the two preservatives (methyl and propyl paraben) in water and heat the solution to 75°C. - Add 2 to 1 and stir slowly while still on the water bath for about 5 minutes, then remove the dish from the water bath and continue stirring slowly until the temperature drops to that of the room, then add the perfume. - Pour into jars. # Cream - Cold cream - Cleansing creams - Coloring creams # Cream ## Vanishing cream - It is o/w emulsion. - Disappear when rubbed into the skin. - Called foundation creams as they form a foundation base for powder. - Coloring creams. ### Formula for Vanishing cream | | | | --------------------------------------- | -------- | | Stearic acid | 15 g | | Glycerin | 5 g | | Potassium hydroxide | 0.72g | | Water | 79 g | | Methyl paraben | 0.2 g | | Propyl paraben | 0.02 g | | Perfume | Q.S. | | | Fiat cream. | # Cream ## Vanishing cream - Stearic acid is the oily phase. The emulsifier is soap (potassium stearate) which is formed *in situ* by adding KOH to neutralize a portion usually 20-30% of the free fatty acid (stearic acid). - Glycerin (humectant) help to improve the spreading properties of the cream and minimize the drying out of the cream on exposure to the air.
