Type II - Fluid filled vesicles = genital area - Regional lymphadenopathy and dysuria - Symptomatic and supportive therapy - Analgesic, Antipyretic - Anesthetic mouthwash - Drying agents - Acyclovir **AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome)** progress weakening of cell mediated (T cell) immunity \> opportunistic infections and unusual cancer Patients History adults 1-3 yrs. Exposure children 8 months Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) / AIDS related virus (ARV) - Multiple sexual partners - Intravenous drug abuse - Hemophilia - Blood transfusion/blood products - Prenatal and perinatal exposure to AIDAS Nonspecific Manifestation - Fatigue, Afternoon Fevers, Night Sweats, Weight loss, Diarrhea, cough Specific Manifestation - Opportunistic infections - Kaposi's sarcoma - Safe sex, Avoid sex with prostitutes - Knowing the sexual partner - Not sharing needles and syringes, Avoid recreational drugs - HIV patient should not donate blood, organs, sperm, tissues **Gonorrhea** Venereal disease infection on urethra and the cervix, occasionally on the rectum, pharynx and eyes Neisseria Gonorrhea (bacteria) - Sexual contact with person who has gonorrhea - Sex with new partner (unprotected) - Sexually active under 25 yrs. of age - History STI - Birthed by a person with gonorrhea Females - Asymptomatic = inflammation and greenish yellow discharge Males - Asymptomatic = develop after 3-6 days incubation period - Urethritis: dysuria, purulent urethral discharge - Redness and swelling at the site - Probenecid or Antibiotics (tetracycline or spectinomycin) - Antimicrobials **Syphilis** chronic infectious venereal disease Treponema Pallidum (Spirochaete) (bacteria) - Sexual contact during primary, secondary and early latent stages of infection - Perinatal transmission **Primary** (3 weeks contact); Chancres, regional lymphadenopathy **Secondary** (few days to 8 weeks); Rashes, Symmetrical mucocutaneous lesions, General lymphadenopathy, brittle and pitted nails, possible alopecia **Late** (benign, cardiovascular, neuro); Gumma, epigastric pain, enlarge spleen and anemia, aortitis, meningitis, CNS damage (general paresis, personality changes, arm leg weakness) - Antibiotics (penicillin) - Tetracycline or erythromycin **Prenatal Syphilis** chronic infectious venereal disease Treponema Pallidum (Spirochete) - Perinatal transmission - Age 2 = blood studies Lesions (Vesicular, bullous, eruptions) sole and palms after 3 weeks Maculopapular rash on face, mouth, genitalia, palms and sole Condylomata lata = anus - Antibiotics (I.V or I.M) Herpesvirus Hominis - a member of a group of viruses that are ether sensitive, contain DNA and form intranuclear inclusions. - Develops in the Nucleus Encephalitis - Inflammation of the brain Oral mucosa - Mucous membrane that lines the structures within the oral cavity Submandibular lymphadenopathy - Enlarge lymph nodes on the lower jaw (beneath mandible) Regional lymphadenopathy - Enlargement of single or multiple contiguous nodal regions Acyclovir - Topical cream, tablets = use to cure chickenpox, shingles, herpes virus Hemophilia - Inherited blood disorder Prenatal - Before birth Perinatal - The period of time when you become pregnant and up to a year after giving birth Kaposi sarcoma - Cancel cell found in the skin or mucous membranes that line the GI tract from mouth to anus including the stomach and intestines. - Tumors = purple patches or nodules on the skin and mucous membrane that can spread to the lymph nodes and lungs Neisseria Gonorrhea - Vaginal, oral and anal sex (transmission) - Bacteria Dysuria - Painful or difficulty of urination Purulent urethral discharge - Discharging of pus Treponema pallidum - Formerly known as spirochaete pallidum - Microaerophilic spirochaete bacterium - Causative organism = syphilis Pitted nail - Round depression or notches appear in the nails - Common to people with psoriasis and eczema Gumma - Tumorlike mass Epigastric pain - Pain you feel on the left part of the ribs to your belly button Spleen - Organ, part of the lymphatic system Aortitis - Inflammation of the aorta Meningitis - Inflammation of the protective membranes covering the brain and spinal cord Maculopapular - Mix of macules (flat discolored areas of the skin) - Papules (small raised bumps) Condylomata lata - One of the manifestations of secondary syphilis - 1-2 cm flat topped smooth surfaced papules and small plaques IV = intravenous IM = intramascular
