Product Owner Role The main responsibility of the Product Owner is to maintain the product backlog. The Product Owner is accountable for creating and updating a product strategy and roadmap. The main tasks performed by a Product Owner include: Defining the product vision and roadmap Creating and refining the product backlog Prioritizing the product backlog Ensuring the development team understands the product backlog Desirable qualities of a great Product Owner include: A clear understanding of the market and customer needs Strong communication and stakeholder management skills Ability to prioritize and make decisions Knowledge of the product domain Scrum Master Role The Scrum Master offers process and method coaching to the Product Owner, developers, and stakeholders. The Scrum Master is responsible for removing impediments and solving problems and resolving issues. The Scrum Master ensures that the Scrum framework is followed and that the team adheres to the Scrum values. Desirable qualities of a great Scrum Master include: Strong facilitation and coaching skills Ability to remove impediments and solve problems Knowledge of the Scrum framework and values Ability to foster a collaborative and productive team environment The Scrum Master works to remove impediments throughout the organization by: Identifying and addressing obstacles Collaborating with stakeholders to resolve issues Coaching the team on Scrum values and principles The Scrum Master demonstrates empathy by: Actively listening to team members Understanding and addressing team members' concerns Fostering a supportive and inclusive team environment Development Team The ideal size for a development team in Scrum is between 3 and 9 people.
