Some animals can use their structures for protection. hedgehog Animals can also use structures like their nose, mouth, eyes, and ears to help them live. Why do insects have wings? What is a Trait? A trait is something that describes how an animal looks or acts. A mother cow and her calf often have similar colors. What is a behavior? A behavior is the way a person, animal, or thing acts or does something. Some animals parents care for their offspring. These behaviors help their offsprings to survive. Animal babies let their parents know what they need. Babies signal to send a message. A signal is a sound or movement that gives information. Baby birds make sounds. They also open their mouths when they are ready to eat. Animal babies learn behaviors from their parents. Both signals and behaviors help young animals survive. As young animals grow, they learn how to survive on their own. Learn means to gain knowledge.
