I can't remember what the play was, but I remember I played the baker in the town who sold bread to everyone from his shop. It wasn't a very big part, but I was very proud. I was also very nervous. I didn't have very many things to say, but there was a song and I had to sing about four lines of it all on my own. The song was right at the start of the play and it was to introduce the people in the play. So I sang about my bread and then the grocer sang about his vegetables and the butcher sang about his meat and then in the chorus everyone sang together about our wonderful town. I remember on the first night of the play, I looked out and saw all the parents sitting there. I was really nervous now. Then the music started and we all walked out on stage to sing our song. Suddenly it was my turn to go to the front and sing. I sang loud and I sang clear, just like the teacher told me. But then I looked and saw people were laughing - but why? It wasn't a funny song. I was confused. After the play the teacher said I sang beautifully. "But why were people laughing?" I asked her. "Well," she said. "You had a loaf of bread in your arms, but you used the wrong words. You sang about your sausages and how they were the best in town. You sang the butcher's song!" I was so embarrassed and I never did another play at school. ---- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1 The writer doesn't remember the name of \...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\... . 2 In the school play the writer played a \...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\... . 3 The writer felt \...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\... and nervous to be in the play. 4 The writer had \...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\... to sing in the play. 5 The writer's part of the song was about \...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\... . 6 When he saw \...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\... the writer felt very nervous. 7 People started to \...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\... the writer sang his song. 8 The writer was confused because the song \...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\... . 9 The writer \...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\... words. 10 It was the last time the writer \...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\... . ---- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- **Language in context** ------- --------------------------------------- **3** Match the answers to the questions. 8 ------- --------------------------------------- --- --------------------------------------------- ------------------------ -------------------------------------- 1 Why is your Maths teacher angry? ![](media/image1.jpeg)  Because I was scared. 2 Why didn't you come to the cinema?  Because she passed all her exams. 3 Why don't you want that sandwich? ![](media/image1.jpeg)  Because I'm not hungry. 4 Why did you miss the plane?  Because he had flu. 5 Why is Jane happy? ![](media/image1.jpeg)  Because I didn't do the homework. 6 Why did Matt stay in bed?  Because I don't like horror films. 7 Why did Dad watch the horror film with you? ![](media/image1.jpeg)  Because I left my passport at home. 8 Why did Mum go to bed early?  Because she was tired. --- --------------------------------------------- ------------------------ -------------------------------------- ------- -------------------------------------------------------- **4** Complete the sentences with *should* or *shouldn't*. 5 ------- -------------------------------------------------------- --- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1 You **\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_** walk. We spent a long time choosing what **^(2) ^**\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\... to wear. I wanted to be a **^(3) ^**\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\... , but I didn't have any fake teeth so I got a white bed sheet, put it over my head, cut some holes for eyes and I was a **^(4) ^**\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\... . Carla went as a **^(5) ^**\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\... . She wore black clothes and a big hat and had a broom\*. She also wore a **^(6) ^**\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\... across her eyes. She looked really scary. We walked down our street until we came to a house with a **^(7) ^**\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\... outside. It had a burning **^(8) ^**\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\... inside. This is always the sign of a good house so we opened the **^(9) ^**\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\... and went inside and knocked on the door. The woman who opened the door was really kind. She gave us sweets and invited us to do some **^(10) ^**\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\...\... . I got very wet, but it was great fun. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- **VOCABULARY: \*broom** -- Besen -------- ---------------------------------------------- **11** Match the adjectives with the opposites\*. 6 -------- ---------------------------------------------- --- ----------- ------------------------ --------- 1 strong ![](media/image1.jpeg)  bald\* 2 hairy  small 3 clever ![](media/image1.jpeg)  light 4 heavy  safe 5 big ![](media/image1.jpeg)  weak 6 dangerous  stupid --- ----------- ------------------------ --------- **VOCABULARY: \*opposite** -- Gegenteil; **bald** -- kahl +-----------------------------------------------------------------------+ | **Writing** | | | | **Choose [ONE] option:** | +-----------------------------------------------------------------------+ --------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- **12A** Choose two animals and compare them.
