Nucleus- Contains the DNA and nuclear membrane, controls the cells activities 3. DNA- the instructional code located in the nucleus and tells the cell what to do 4. Genes- the factor that controls and trait 5. Alleles- the letters that represent the different forms of a gene 6. Meiosis- production of sex cells sperm or egg that are used in reproduction 7. Mitosis- cell replication when one body cell becomes 2 8. Dominant- the trait that overshadows and is expressed 9. Recessive- the trait that hides in the background. Can only be expressed in homozygous 10. Phenotype- the physical appearance of a trait 11. Genotype- combination of alleles (letters) 12. Heterozygous- hybrid two alleles/letters for one trait that are different 13. Homozygous/ Purebred- 2 alleles/letters for one trait that are the same 14. Genetic Engineering- Altering DNA to get desired traits 15. Selective Breeding- Selecting organisms with desired traits 16. Gene Therapy- Adding/deleting genes to correct organisms with disorders 17. Hybridization- Crossing 2 organisms resulting in an organism with desired traits 18. Cloning- A new organism is made with the same genes 19. Inbreeding- two organisms with the same characteristics mate. 20. Pedigree- It's a way of tracing a trait through a family tree 21. Codominance- where the trait that both traits are expressed at the same time. © Getting Nerdy, LLC
