Its connected To the mandible that's why jaw Thrust is effective.. **Pharyngeal Reflex (gag reflex):** If any foreign objects enter back of tongue, there are ***sensory*** ***vagus*** and ***glossopharyngeal nerves*** which send message to Medulla Oblongata, but this centre is close to the [vomiting, salivary and] [cardiac] centres which all which may be stimulated during gagging. **Laryngeal Reflex:** This reflex is much lower down- Prevents things from getting in to The trachea by closing the vocal Cords. The nerves that sense mucosa Are: ***sensory nerves & Superior*** ***Laryngeal nerve***. Send message to Medulla of brainstem. Message sent Look at the angle of the right & Left ***Down via Recurrent Laryngeal nerve BRONCHUS!*** Which contracts muscle (thyro- ET Tube slips into right cos of angle: Arytenoid)-closes vocal cords. Right anterior (towards chest)-Left Posterior (towards bum)-cos of aorta
